Bruce stared through the iron gates at the old mansion that seemed to sag with an air of despair. His hands were curled around the spikes of the rusting gates as rain fell in steady sheets. He could hear the tempest-tossed ocean as it surged below the cliffs. )

Hi, luvs!

I just realized that it's close to my 10th anniversary here on LJ. I created this journal on October 24, 2006, made my first post on November 12th, and my first fic posting on November 21st (Announcement I: The Ready Room), introducing myself to the DC Comics community here on-line. Little did I know the friends I would make and the prolific writing in my future! Good times, good times. :)

I don't know if I'll come up with something for the anniversary, but I wanted to acknowledge it to all my friends here on my f-list, and who have stuck around when a lot of people took off for shinier baubles platforms. A big THANK YOU to all the people who have encouraged me during low points, celebrated with me in good times, and helped me with gifting me with paid accounts and extra icon userpics, which has really made life here more fun. :)

I've had a great time reading, writing, and hosting my Challenges over the years, too. The 2016 DCU Fic/Art Halloween Challenge is my next-to-last Challenge, as I'm seriously considering doing something special for Wonder Woman next year to commemorate her first ever live-action movie. That will be my grand final Challenge and how better to do it than with one of my all-time favorite characters? :) I'm pretty proud of the many Challenges I've hosted (Complete List here) and another big THANK YOU to all who contributed during these past ten years.

It's been a rainy morning with plenty of fog, but we need the rain after a summer of drought. The leaves are turning bright colors and my sister and I are going to the orchard tomorrow to get fresh apples (can't get any fresher!). Life is good. Enjoy your weekend, my friends! :)

Writing Rambles

bradygirl_12: (bat o'lantern 2)
How typical is this? I'm just about to write the final paragraph of the story I'm planning to submit to my 2016 DCU Fic/Art Halloween Challenge, and I decide I've got a better angle and now I have to do a major re-write! Fortunately, it's not a super-long story, but it will delay my posting. I know, you're all waiting with bated breath, right? ;) Better that I came up with the new idea now instead of after posting, eh?

Most of my writing efforts this month will revolve around my [livejournal.com profile] marvel_bang story, mostly prep for AO3 posting and figuring out how many chapters I can fit into one entry on LJ. I also have to write out my master post for the announcement on [livejournal.com profile] marvel_bang, but I'm probably going to use the summary I've already used, anyway.

Otherwise I have three Halloween ideas I'm juggling, the one mentioned above, another DC Comics idea, and a Marvel Comics idea. My other DC plot bunny may end up using my Late Entries Policy grace period, as I'm still kind of letting the idea simmer in my cauldron for now. I've already started work on the Marvel idea.

Funny how I'm getting all these seasonal ideas when we're supposed to get a heat wave this week. Thankfully cold weather will be back by next weekend!

Hope your Halloween Muses are spooking you, too! ;)

Hi, luvs!

Just a reminder that my 2016 DCU Fic/Art Halloween Challenge is up and running. Get in while you can because I'm pretty sure this is going to be the last Halloween Challenge I host for the foreseeable future. I might do something next year to celebrate Wonder Woman's first live-action movie EVAH, but after that, I'll be retiring my Mod Tiara. It seems as if people on LJ are more interested in Kinkmemes and Big Bangs, and I'm not interested in hosting those.

I had a good run. Check out the Fic/Art Challenges page and you'll see a blueprint of LJ's 'hotness' and how it cooled in the past decade. You might want to get into the holiday spirit (ahem) and check out the fanworks from previous Halloweens. Maybe you'll get inspired for this bat swan song! ;)

A quickie reminder that if you can't submit an entry by Halloween, you're still eligible for 'goodies' due to my
Late Entries Policy.

I've had a great time hosting these Challenges and a big THANK YOU to all who participated over the years, contributing fanworks, congratulation banners, encouragement, etc.

FANWORKS FOREVER!!!

BradyGirl_12's 2016 DCU Fic/Art Halloween Challenge

Can you hear the whispers of ghosts in the trees as they bend and sigh? Can you see the Jack O’Lanterns glitter and leer as their light dances in the windows and on the porches? Can you hear the shuffling of trick-or-treaters' feet as they make their way through the fallen leaves?

Then it’s time for the BradyGirl_12's 2016 DCU Fic/Art Halloween Challenge, my friends! :)

This is BIG, folks! ;)

So harvest the candy corn and string up the pumpkin lights and join us for spooky fun! :)

The [livejournal.com profile] marvel_bang and [livejournal.com profile] dcu_bang will be opening soon for artists to claim stories (this Saturday at noon EDT). Stories are up now for early perusal, so if you're interested, check 'em out! Marvel's are here and DC's are here. Marvel has 35 stories and DC has 5 this year.

Funny how Muses work. My [livejournal.com profile] marvel_bang started slowly, even though I had the beginning and end and some scenes I wanted to put into the middle. For whatever reason, despite my deadlines, it was slow going at first, to the point that I wondered if I would have to drop out (which would have been a first for me!) but this past week has been all Big Bang, and I should have the last chapter finished this week. *fingers crossed* I did have to submit my manuscript at the final check-in at 80% instead of 100%, which is a first for me. Still, it's been a lot of fun and I look forward to seeing if an artist claims my story today. :)

Hi, luvs!

As you can see by the icon on this post, I am busy utilizing my userpic packages and gathering more cool pix to showcase. I can't resist Clark using his heat vision to cook the hot dogs and burgers on the grill. :)

Speaking of cook-outs, I did attend one over the weekend with the requisite menu: hot dogs, hamburgers, pasta salad, potato salad, garden salad, chips, dips, pickles, olives...you know, good stuff! :) Everything tastes better on the grill!

P.S. To get the full effect, check this post out on my journal with its cook-out theme! :)

Creative Energy!!!

Tuesday, June 21st, 2016 11:23 am
bradygirl_12: (han--luke (sickbay))
I woke up this morning with a lot of creative energy, so I got down to work right away after my walk to take advantage of it before it disappeared! :)

I FINALLY broke the logjam in my profic, which has been sitting around for a couple of months. I couldn't even force myself to write a sentence a day on it because I was completely stymied on the direction I wanted it to go. Now I've been busy writing all morning, yay, me! :)

I also got going again on my [livejournal.com profile] marvel_bang story and am making good progress with that, as well as a Han/Luke story that was stalled forever. I also have a short Han/Luke idea that I might write soon which has been in the back of my mind for awhile.

A new Clark/Bruce idea paired with Steve/Diana could be written up soon, or at least sometime this summer. My priorities this summer have to be the profic and the [livejournal.com profile] marvel_bang, but I like dashing off short pieces to keep things fresh.

The Raven And The Nightingale might end up shelved for the summer, but there's always research to do for that one that will be ready when I go back to writing it.

Who wants to see another seaside story this summer? :)

Enjoy your day, luvs! Sit on your deck or patio, listen to the birds sing, and connect with Nature. Your Muses will come back if they've stalled! :)

Merry Solstice!!!

bradygirl_12: (supergirl (new frontier smile))
Hi, luvs!

It's a wonderfully sunny day, which is appropriate as it's the Summer Solstice! Whoo hoo! :)

Funny how it's now entering the darker half of the year when it's summertime, but the days will start to shrink after today. Every day is a gift, right?

For all you Clex fans out there, the [livejournal.com profile] clexmas Spring Fling! Reverse Bang has closed art submissions, but now it's time for the writers, vidders and music mixers to get busy! The Bang is open to all versions of the Clex, not just Smallville, so if you've got ideas from comics, cartoons, or movies, you can use those, too!

Congrats to Cleveland sports fans for a 52-year championship drought in ANY sport ending last night as the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Golden State Warriors in Game 7 of the National Basketball Association's Championship Series. It's a sweet feeling, isn't it? :)

Just got back from the eye doctor with a clean bill of health. Always a little nervous, y'know, because...eyes! So I am very relieved. Wearing dark glasses while my eyes are dilated. :)

Ficcish Update

Sunday, June 12th, 2016 07:12 pm
bradygirl_12: (steve--bucky (icy blue))
I signed up for the [livejournal.com profile] marvel_bang! :)

Frankly, I thought I was going to bypass any Big Bang this year as I had no ideas as the sign-up dates approached. Wasn't that big a deal since I've been writing Big Bangs since 2011 and nothing was materializing for the [livejournal.com profile] dcu_bang and [livejournal.com profile] marvel_bang, so I decided to see if I could get inspiration from Captain America 3: Civil War. Even after that it was sketchy but with a couple of days before sign-ups closed, I got inspiration! :)

The Raven And The Nightingale is stalled after I thought it was revving up again, but such is the way of things. I think I'll do some more research while waiting to write again. It's just too much fun to relegate to never getting out of the notebook stage. :)

I've got two birthday stories I owe and happily am working on one and have an idea for the other.

I've got some stories that are still in the notebook stage. One's a Jurassic Park tale that I wrote last year in a flurry of inspiration after seeing the first film again and those fun 'n' sexy scientists, Alan and Ian! :)

I've got a Steve/Bucky tale inspired by Age Of Ultron that's just been sitting in the Unsatisfied pile. I may try and fix that up.

And I've been editing a Clark/Bruce story told from the POV of Lois, one of my favorite things. :)

Still working on my Han/Luke comfort food fic. Comfort food: a fic that has no deadline and is generally fairly long so that I can enjoy the writing with no pressure. Even my own Challenges and Big Bangs have slight pressure. You have to work on a deadline fic while comfort food is worked on when hungry, er, in the mood. :)

I might even take a crack at the [livejournal.com profile] clexmas Spring Fling! Reverse Bang. I hadn't intended to but the art submissions are pretty intriguing, so who knows? That's in the 'Maybe' queue. :)

So it looks like my [livejournal.com profile] marvel_bang story will be a summer project. Maybe I can spin a few seaside tales this summer, too. :)
bradygirl_12: (captain america (shield))
Now that the has been properly pimped, we turn our attention to the [livejournal.com profile] marvel_bang! Eagerly anticipating Captain America 3: Civil War? Finally ready to write that Steve/Bucky epic that's been nagging at you since Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier? Checking in at Heartbreak Hotel for the Steve/Tony split? Trying to figure out the new world of Marvel Comics since the Incursions erased the status quo? Then head over to [livejournal.com profile] marvel_bang and sign up! You've got until May 15th, authors! :)

Once the movie's out in more countries, expect a TON of inspired sign-ups! :)

It's that time of year again! :) The [livejournal.com profile] dcu_bang is open for author sign-ups until May 15th. Got an idea that just won't leave you? Inspired by the latest crop of movies and TV shows? Excited by DC: Rebirth? Or do you enjoy the classics? You will have plenty of room to shine as this Bang is a lot smaller than its sister challenge, [livejournal.com profile] marvel_bang.

Dick followed him into a dark interior. Smoke wreathed the denizens’ heads as mugs of ale were raised. A vigorous dart game was going on in the corner, and several men in a booth were lustily singing a bawdy song. )
