This really was gorgeous! I loved the fairy-tale style you chose to write this in. It fit so well and really did sound like a romantic story of old! Your descriptions in the beginning were absolutely lovely, and I could picture it all in my mind as clear as crystal!

I think this line was my favorite: "He thought fondly of the light repast that would be waiting for him in the Castle, his loyal Chamberlain the finest baker in the land." Alfred being described as the 'finest baker in the land' made me giggle with glee XD; It was so apropos and cute!
