Well, for icons (or banners) you could do more than one couple per item, or do one pair and then a second pair in a second icon/banner and link them thematically in some way.

So essentially you can present two or more couples in your work, plus a large cast (and a banner would probably work better in that case) or a series of works that all link up to a large cast. :)
