The rain came down in sheets, washing away Gotham’s sins as raindrops bounced on the cracked sidewalks like pearls slipping off a broken string, running down the drainpipes and puddling in the streets.

A dark figure staggered through the deluge, his shadow looming large on the crumbling tenement walls. He carried a bright burden, sunshine spilling out as ruby and emerald hues shone brightly in the soft glow of the ancient streetlamp. Raindrops glittered like diamonds as they slid over sodden fabric. A darker patch of red marred the robin-red tunic, the younger man coughing weakly. Rivulets of ruby ran down pale skin onto the sidewalk and down into the gutter.

Batman fell to his knees, a dark patch on his shoulder spreading like a malevolent web. His chest heaved as a feeble green-gloved hand reached up and caressed his face.

“It’s okay.”

“You need help.” The voice was raspy and strained, limbs trembling with exhaustion.

“So do you.” Robin’s dark hair was plastered to his head, blue eyes cloudy with pain. His fingers traced the strong jaw of his companion. “I love you.”

A small smile ghosted Batman’s lips. “I love you, too.”

The rain mingled with tears down Robin’s cheeks. He sighed softly as his hand slid down to rest on his stomach, his eyes closing.

The wind gusted, rattling the fire escape, a cat yowling, and blew over the wounded duo, Batman pulling his cape tighter around their bodies, the bulb in the streetlamp guttering until it winked out.

Beautifully tragic. The atmosphere with the rain and...such sadness. It's descriptive and the loss that occurred was a quiet one.

Those poor Bats can't catch a break. This was beautifully descriptive, angsty and heartbreaking... perfect.

How sad and evocative. You pull the care and love out of our boys and create something so beautiful and lyrical.
Thanks for sharing babygirl!

:( Why do you like to make me sad?

Lovely that they're together, though.
