Appomattox (April 9, 1865)
Today is the 156th anniversary of Lee's surrender to Grant at Appomattox. It's an anniversary worth thinking about as it represents the end of a terrible war, the cause of which still resonates today.
What-Ifs? are always fascinating. What if Lincoln hadn't been shot five days later? What if he had implemented his plan for Reconstruction? A Southerner killed the man who could have made things so much better all the way around. Could African-Americans gotten a better deal with Lincoln in the White House? A definite What-If!
