Yay for me! My sister couldn't get tomorrow off (my actual birthday), but she got today off and she surprised me with a trip to The Hall At Patriots Place, the museum dedicated to all things Patriots! Woot! :)

We saw the 5th Super Bowl trophy, some new exhibits, like Edelman's helmet and gloves he was wearing when he made the Miracle Catch, and a lot of other fun goodies that gladdens a Patriots' fan's heart! :)

We then went to CbsScene for lunch and BunnyGirl ordered a salad with tomatoes and feta cheese while I went with a burger and fries, complete with tomato slices, pickles, ketchup, mustard and red onions. We also started with spicy hot Buffalo chicken tenders! And, I got a surprise at the end of the meal: three waitresses bringing over a dish of strawberry ice cream and singing, "Happy Birthday!" :)

The view was great: we were able to see into Gillette Stadium and view the five championship banners! :)

So now my actual birthday is tomorrow with great memories. :)

Happy Valentine's Day, my friends! May your day be a joyous one. :)

Whoops, gotta go get some breakfast. I'll be going to the early showing of Lego Batman with some friends, and then we'll be visiting my sister as she recovers from surgery at home. Enjoy your day! Review to come. ;)

Hope all who celebrate had a good Imbolc today. :)

For everyone, Happy Groundhog Day! :)

I've been enjoying Super Bowl Week. Found out that Tom Brady's mother has been very ill for the last 18 months, just about the length of time he suffered through the witch hunt by the NFL. He got choked up talking about his hero, his father, during Media Night. He's very close to his parents and his older sisters. His parents go to every game, though this year the illness prevented that. When he first moved to Massachusetts to start his career, two of his sisters came from California to stay with him that first year with the Pats. :)

Got an invitation to a Super Bowl party at my sister's. We might get pizza or Subway sandwiches or BunnyGirl might cook. Up to her! :)

Well, going to turn in now. Zzzzzzz!!! :)

Hi, luvs!

I just realized that it's close to my 10th anniversary here on LJ. I created this journal on October 24, 2006, made my first post on November 12th, and my first fic posting on November 21st (Announcement I: The Ready Room), introducing myself to the DC Comics community here on-line. Little did I know the friends I would make and the prolific writing in my future! Good times, good times. :)

I don't know if I'll come up with something for the anniversary, but I wanted to acknowledge it to all my friends here on my f-list, and who have stuck around when a lot of people took off for shinier baubles platforms. A big THANK YOU to all the people who have encouraged me during low points, celebrated with me in good times, and helped me with gifting me with paid accounts and extra icon userpics, which has really made life here more fun. :)

I've had a great time reading, writing, and hosting my Challenges over the years, too. The 2016 DCU Fic/Art Halloween Challenge is my next-to-last Challenge, as I'm seriously considering doing something special for Wonder Woman next year to commemorate her first ever live-action movie. That will be my grand final Challenge and how better to do it than with one of my all-time favorite characters? :) I'm pretty proud of the many Challenges I've hosted (Complete List here) and another big THANK YOU to all who contributed during these past ten years.

It's been a rainy morning with plenty of fog, but we need the rain after a summer of drought. The leaves are turning bright colors and my sister and I are going to the orchard tomorrow to get fresh apples (can't get any fresher!). Life is good. Enjoy your weekend, my friends! :)

Hi, luvs! What a GREAT birthday I had! Thanks SO MUCH for all the wonderful greetings and goodies! *dances* :)

It was a nice, quiet day. I’d already had My Special Day, courtesy of my sister, so quiet suited me just fine. :)

My sister BunnyGirl won't be in town for my birthday this Tuesday, so she treated me early to my present. Besides, this wasn't a thing meant to be stuffed in after work.

Yay, my sister invited me over to her house tomorrow to watch the Pats/Jaguars game. She's going to spring for lunch and I'll get some cool birthday goodies. Tomorrow is gonna be FUN!!! :)

I already got a birthday gift of BunnyGirl treating me to one of the local fairs. She paid for my admission and bought me ice cream! ;) We also went to lunch after and I had baked haddock, saffron rice, and broccoli. We both shared garlic bread for our appetizers and Bunny had minestrone soup for her meal. She also gave me a Star Trek-themed card, which was awesome sauce, of course! :)

G'night, all! I'll try and get on-line sometime tomorrow. Monday for sure! :)
bradygirl_12: (pumpkin muffin (bats))
It's been a glorious day! :)

1) Dunkin' Donuts has pumpkin everything back! :) I went out this morning and bought a pumpkin muffin and pumpkin pie doughnut. The doughnut's gone. ;)

2) My sister is helping a friend out with a yard sale. We had a ginormous one last year before the move. This time she's not in charge, just one of the staff. :)

3) I've been watching the Ken Burns documentary, The Roosevelts: An Intimate History and plan to see the finale tonight. I've studied that era of the New Deal so I know a lot of the facts/events but I'm seeing new photographs and newsreels. I enjoy immersing myself in another time. The Great Depression was terrible, but the energy that the New Deal generated to combat it was exciting. And the coming war certainly taxed FDR's considerable political skills! Anyway, great stuff. :)

4: One more: watching The Adventures Of Superman. It's from the black-and-white first season with Phyllis Coates instead of Noel Neill as Lois. Apparently Phyllis came across as 'too tough' and so they replaced her with Noel. I like her and she was tough, too, but they considered her more 'feminine'. Sheesh!

Today's positive happenings:

1) Made progress on my two stories for my 2014 DCU Fic/Art Halloween Challenge. Bubble, bubble, toil 'n' trouble! ;)

2) Noticed from my balcony that there is one tree starting to turn colors. Autumn is nearly here! :)

3) Was finally able to connect with my Movie Night buddies and we're on for next week after a long hiatus. We don't care what movie we see, just plan on enjoying the company during an evening out. :)

4) Adding one more: today's my sister's wedding anniversary! :)

Hello, luvs!

Since my posting access is iffy at best, I decided to post this a little early. Besides, I consider this Love Week with Love Weekend tacked on at the end. ;)

A lot of people don’t like Valentine’s Day, and that’s fine. They say it’s too commercial. That’s true. But what modern holiday isn’t? Halloween? Christmas? Even St. Patrick’s Day is commercial now! And it’s always been that way. Whether for religious or cultural reasons, merchants always made a buck off the festivals and holidays as they hawked doves and religious trinkets outside the temples. Corporations will always co-opt.

I like Valentine’s Day because it reminds people to say, “I love you.”

Ah, you say. Shouldn’t that be said the other 364 days a year? Of course. But in chaotic, rushed, modern life, don’t people need a nudge now and again? I feel fortunate to have told my parents that I loved them often before they passed away, but sometimes you take your loved ones for granted. You do everyday things out of love, but isn’t it nice to make a special gesture once in awhile? Valentine’s Day helps us make that special gesture.

The holiday’s marketing is focused on the romantic aspect, but Valentine’s Day is for everyone. And who wants to be in an iffy relationship just for the sake of going out to dinner on February 14th?

Valentine’s Day is for expressing love between parent and child, child and parent, sibling and sibling, friend and friend.

So, a big SHOUT OUT to my friends here on my flist who have done such wonderful things for me in fannish ways (paying for userpics, paid accounts, helping with tapes and DVDs and creative things, birthday fics, etc.) and in RL. When I’ve needed you, you’ve come through for me, even if it’s just to post a fun entry on your LJ for the day. Know that you are loved.

Today I went to lunch with my sister and we went to an Irish pub. Now generally Irish food is not considered great cuisine, mind you, but there's plenty of goodness if you know the right places! :)

So we went to the pub, which only a few months ago re-opened with a total make-over. It looked fresh and new and lovely. Outside were Gaelic symbols on the walls, and the interior held all kinds of posters and photos, some funny and some a little sad (a painting of the Kennedy brothers, JFK and RFK). The place was busy at noon and we were seated right away. My sister sat in a semi-booth while I had the chair on the opposite side. It was a chair that was nice and high, which I like since I like to be above table level! :) It was a cloudy day so the sun streaming in was mild but illuminated the dark wood and books on the shelves quite nicely.

The menu was varied and lengthy. We giggled over the 'Tom Brady' sirloin and finally made our choices: my sister had the broccoli cheddar soup while I went with the Boston baked schrod, accompanied by whipped potatoes with chives, baby carrots, cauliflower, peapods, and red onion slices. We both enjoyed warm wheat rolls with a dash of dill, and enjoyed catching up face-to-face instead of just via e-mail.

It was a very pleasant lunch! Good food and good company do it every time! :)

Well, I did consider zipping away from the post without mentioning fic, but, nah, why not go for it? ;)

To my "Rainbow's Freedom" fans: busy typing the next chapter for posting, and in the second arc, Bruce keeps tying Clark up quite a bit (the Bat is cracking the whip on this one), so slightly more kink to come! ;)

The Bruce/Dick fic is 37 pages so far. Not sure when it'll end! :) The Muse keeps pushing me on this, even insisting I include some porny goodness! ;) All kinds of guest stars, too.

Some drabbles recently posted, and even a "Five Things I Find Ironic About The Bat"! :)

Guess I'm just feeling bubbly today! :)
