Yes, this is a first for me, fulfilling a request on the same day! :)

Marble halls spoke of ancient cultures and richness that had little to do with money.  Sunlight streamed through stained-glass windows, rainbow-colored diamond patterns criss-crossing the floor.  Smooth Greek and Roman busts and statues sat in their little alcoves on their pillared pedestals, serenely watching the world go by.

Footsteps echoed in cavernous rooms, voices hushed as pages were turned and pens scratched on paper, sound drifting up and swallowed by the vaulted frescoed ceilings.

At one table by a window sat two women.  The redhead’s hair was afire from the sun, green eyes as dark and cool as leaves in a forest behind gold-rimmed glasses.  Slender fingers tapped a pencil on a fresh page in a notebook, a large, old-fashioned book opened on the table, the fine grains of the dark oakwood only slightly scarred.

The brunette girl who sat in the other chair paid rapt attention to the redhead, who pointed her pencil at the illustration of the armor-clad Amazon in the book.  A slight musty smell bespoke the book’s age, the brittle pages’ gilt edges tinged every so slightly with brown, the ink beginning to fade.

Here superpowers held no sway.  In this temple of learning set on a campus populated with venerable old trees of maple and oak and nestled among rolling hills, the librarian imparted her knowledge, the teacher/mentor with more power than her student, yet her lips curved in gentle affection as her eyes met otherworldly blue, their hands brushing as they both reached to turn the page.

Knowledge is power.

Gorgeously depicted. What I wouldn't do to have a crack at the library myself, and maybe take a book or two like Batman :D
