My Reaction To What Has Befallen The Arrows
Okay, so DC first lops off Roy's arm? Now THEY KILL HIS DAUGHTER? They make Ollie a killer? They destroy Star City and millions of people?
Can someone honestly tell me why DC has become so bloodthirsty in recent years? Is that what sells comics? Pretty sad commentary on our society, 'fraid to say.
It just makes me more convinced than ever that ignoring canon is the best thing for my fanfic. Bah! on DC and their fridging ways.

Who comes up with this crap? *shakes head*

and just when I was seriously thinking of coming BACK to comics.
Christ, DC.

But killing one of the coolest little girls in comics, all for some cheap angst? Disgusting. No. Just no. She grows up, becomes Speedy, joins the Teen Titans, and dates Milagro Reyes. That is all. :p

I know. I still hate both things.

There you go! Fanfic was created to make canon better! ;)

It's one of those catch 22 situations. "Violence begets violence" could actually be considered true here I suppose...
But *that's* my opinion and I don't make my opinions policy /smirked chuckle.

Sadly true. A country that allows people to easily obtain guns seems to tolerate violence on a staggering scale.

Thank you! :)
but since this resonates with what's happened to my current primary fandom... (see icon!) - You have my sympathy. Truly.
Ah, yes, they got you, too. :(

Exactly! It's why I stick mostly to fanfic. :)

I reject your reality and replace it with my own.
Canon just sucks.
First Boomer. Now Lian! :( -shakes fist- Damn you, DC.

I'm very happy in my own little fanfic world.
I know that some deaths are probably inevitable, given the dangerous work heroes do, but it seems like it's been a bloodbath for years now.

I know!
Like someone said on my flist, Damien comes in last year and is practically given the keys to the kingdom, whereas a female heroine whom we've watched grow up for twenty years in comics time just gets offed to be a catalyst for other characters' emotions.
It's the way they treated the original Supergirl. I've never forgiven them for that!

You thought they'd hit rock-bottom, but, alas, they have new lows to come, I'd wager.

WTF?

WTF?
Yikes! I didn't know these examples!
'Tis a sorry case, m'dear. The world is harsher than once we knew, and the numbing of sensitivity to violence is a sad and dangerous thing.

I find my blood pressure thanks me for not buying too many comics. ;)

I don't usually care too much when characters are killed off in comics, even when it's characters I like, but I dislike deaths that I feel are gratuitous and are just there for shock value. There was a scene in one of the X-Men comics where a hate group crucified a group of minor mutant characters on wooden "X's" and I hated it because it just felt so wrong and pointless.
That's how I feel about Lian's death but I also know it's not enough to get me to stop reading comics. There have been times when I was ready to give up on certain titles but there's always enough I like about them to keep me going. I'm hoping after Blackest Night, DC will be a little less dark as they claim they're going to hold off on deaths for a while. We'll see how long that lasts.

I rarely check the DC boards anymore. They seem to be inhabited quite a bit by trolls, or people going for their own shock value.

You're right, it sounds gratuitous.

As for DC...LA LA LA LA LA I don't hear you, I don't hear you LA LA LA LA LA
The only good thing about this is that in comics, death is rarely permanent.

You said it, m'lady!
DAMN what the frell were they thinking...opps my bad, we're talking about DC (not that Marvel is the good twin). I thank God for fandom (for real, I thank God for your stories)
Aww, thank you! Happily, canon does not affect my writing in the slightest. :)

You could see that coming in the past few month. A Titan comic featuring Lian and Roy for 22 pages at home? BAAAAAD sign.
Lian's mom suddenly appearing after all that years and fighting Roy on an "accidentally leaked" cover?
All that buzz that Roy would go "to the Dark Side", what else would push him then loosing Lian?
Obviously they think the only way to get some reaction from the reader is to kill someone and then some time later some idiotic resurrection happens.
Guess who will suffer that fate next? Chances are our Mr. Grayson will. Didio is known for not understanding the Nightwing persona. To him Dick is in his own words: "not Batman and Robin no more" translation: no purpose for Dick Grayson.
It's typical to feature the next one to die first prominently and then the killing blow lands.
If Bruce returns maybe exactly that will happen to Dick, since at DC they love that damn Jason Todd so much.
*Argh* Sorry for the rant, but you can tell that after Ms. Kahn left DC fell into the hands of people who think death is just a good tool to tell stories.
And now they managed to get rid of Paul Levitz, so rest assured the new DC would be even more bloodier to attract those PC and X-box gamers who love to play those idiotic killing games.
I truly wish those guys would enlist and see if they still like it if the threat is real as in Iraq or Afghanistan and people around you die for real.
You think Smallville is dark? Wait and see, they will find a way to make comics even darker, and what really saddens me, those books will sell like sliced bread.
Obviously the "target group" wants to see bloodshed 24/7 and anti-heroes instead of heroes.
I refuse the read most of the comic boards on the net these days, because half of the people writing there argue the Bats should start killing and more loony stuff.

I had the same frightening thought. Didio probably just decided to wait it out after being thwarted the first time in trying to kill Dick. All this disrespect being thrown at Dick by snotty brat Damien could mean that he's softening up the fanboys who consider Dick a joke now.
If DC kills Dick off, I AM DONE!!! I have never forgiven them for killing off the first Supergirl, and I will NEVER forgive them for killing Dick.
If Bruce returns maybe exactly that will happen to Dick, since at DC they love that damn Jason Todd so much.
A lot of my friends love Jason, but not much about his personality attracts me.
If Dick dies when Bruce comes back, what will that do to Bruce? Or will he just shrug it off, considering how TPTB view Dick as useless?
*Argh* Sorry for the rant, but you can tell that after Ms. Kahn left DC fell into the hands of people who think death is just a good tool to tell stories.
Agreed.
And also agreed about your words about the the bloodthirsty players of killing games.
Dark is good now and again, but a steady diet is like anything over-indulged in: not good for you.
