LJ Sucks!!!

So THAT'S the plan! LJ wants to silence us! I can no longer use certain communities now with my slow dial-up. All I get is grayed-out areas where it says 'Add a comment' so can no longer reply or create new messages. The icons are INCREDIBLY frustrating to use with no alphabetical list or drop-down menu. All I see on a page like over at vintage_ads is a few messages and then a bunch of blank icons and no messages down the entire page. I guess I'll view the ads over their but won't bother to read the messages anymore. *shrugs*

I think TPTB want this service to go belly up with all these designs that make the site frustrating to use. They truly DON'T care about their user base at all since they hear the complaints AND DO NOTHING!!!

So, happily I am backed-up over at Dreamwidth and they are offering free sign-ups for the rest of December.

LJ, congrats! You're driving one of the last loyal users out. No more sense of community for me. Thank goodness personal journals seem to be okay, or at least most of them!

*tinhat* I heard the redesign was to soak up more bandwith - so it's easier to DoS attack the site next time the Russian goverment wants to shut the blog-o-sphere up.

Yep, some Russian company. That's why we keep going down during the Russian elections. The political opponents coordinate the DDOS attacks to silence the blogosphere.

Every place I frequent on the internet seems to want to go sucktacular at the same time. But how nice of LJ to sell out to Russian overlords who don't give two tiddlywinks about the people of this site. =X

I thank you for informing about the free accounts at Dreamwidth. I've been wanting one, but I'm a cheap sod and couldn't afford one if I weren't.

True! The Russians don't exactly have a history of political tolerance, so when the blogosphere is located on LJ, they want to shut it down. These changes and stupid moves by LJ might be a master plan to destroy it!

Some communities are finding fixes to work their way around some of the issues, but not all of them. They managed to get subject lines back and some of the linking in threads but the rest...

I think my holiday is going to be spent backing up all my journals and seeing what I can do to make Dreamwidth look prettier.

I read about those. Hopefully the comms I frequent can work around it. Though that begs the question: WHY should they have to? LJ is definitely going down the toilet bowl.

I think LJ is trying to make a move toward a layout that's more like Facebook or Twitter. So far, I hate what I've seen and I will jump ship if it happens. Too bad I bought a year's worth of time for my personal stuff.

I've heard that all of LJ is going to be completely redesigned, and that this is just the tip of the iceberg... I'm glad I backed up my journals at DW recently, though I'll think I'll go do it again tonight!
