Final Crisis (Interview with Grant Morrison)

It sounds pretty bad, folks. Death, more death, perverse evil, and, um, more death. Just another cheerful day at the DC offices. I think as a fan, being the ‘textual poachers’ the intelligentsia named us will work.  Don't leave, join the Resistance! ;)

It appears that my Wonder Muse always like to go long, as they say in football. ;) This newest story, Jewels In The Crown I: Hera’s Chalice was only meant to be about five or six chapters, so of course it morphed into twelve! :)

Like in Stained Glass I: Shattered, I wanted to explore the Steve/Diana relationship in conjunction with external forces: sometimes positive, sometimes negative. How do Queen Hippolyta and other Amazons view Diana’s romance with Steve? And how does he try to be worthy of his Amazon Princess while remaining true to himself? How does Diana balance her Amazon heritage with her love for a man?

In Stained Glass I: Shattered, Diana and Steve were captured during a war on an alien planet and literally had only each other to depend on for survival. The issues surrounding war were examined while showcasing the love and trust Wonder Woman and her Beloved have in each other.

It was a tough story to write, but I was satisfied with the outcome and people’s response to it, and decided to explore their love and trust in a different setting: Queen Hippolyta sends a precious Amazon artifact to America for exhibit, and one of her best warriors accompanies the artifact. Both figure in the story that unfolds, which also features some Gothamites in supporting roles in a couple of chapters. :)

I’ve been working on this story for about six weeks now, and long projects are always fun but keep you hopping with subplots and a cast of characters you try to keep straight (so to speak).

I’ve been exploring the relationship in fiction, and will be doing so in an essay that will be posted next May on [livejournal.com profile] superhero_muses. I am on an Amazonian mission to pimp the ‘ship! ;)

So, enjoy, and I look forward to any comments you’d like to make. :)
