Week 5: New Orleans Saints 34. New England Patriots 0 (1-4) (Sunday, October 8, 2023)

STINK, STANK, STUNK!!!!!!!

After last week's worst loss in Bill Belichick's career as a Head Coach, we witnessed his second worse loss, this time at home! It was awful in all three phases of the game. QB Mac Jones threw yet another Pick-6, the defense couldn't stop anybody and special teams were atrocious. Awful, awful, and MORE awful! Crickets at Gillette.

Where do they go from here? Who knows? They have no playmakers, injuries have piled up, and coaching looks clueless. Bill keeps building a team like Brady's still here, Tom's greatness spackling the cracks in the foundation and elevating JAGs to serviceable-to-good. Can the 71-year-old Belichick relate to today's players who can't be yelled at? Who are social media darlings? Can a chalkboard coach relate to tablet players?

Can this be fixed at all?

The Dolphins and Jets won, the Pats and Bills lost. Next week they travel to Las Vegas to meet the Raiders. Primetime games coming up. Bet the networks bump 'em.

Week 1: Philadelphia Eagles 25, New England Patriots 20 (0-1) (Sunday, September 10, 2023)

Very mixed bag of a day. The game started out horribly for the Pats' D (shades of last year, *shudder*) but they finally stopped majig stupid mistakes and pulling penalties to get within striking distance of victory. Sadly, not to be. The defense was good, special teams not bad, offense mixed. They've got to win games like this. Time for moral victories is over.

The highlight of the day was the ceremony honoring Tom Brady at halftime. The crowd loved to see him running out on the fiels in his Pats jersey once again. Short speeches were made (owner Bob Kraft, then Tom). Tom was very appreciative and thrilled the crowd by saying he was a Patriot for life! :D Kraft said the 4-year waiting for the Patriots Hall Of Fame would be waived and Tom would be inducted next June(not Pro HOF, so he still has to wait 5 years for eligibility there). Tom also rang the bell of the new lighthouse before the game. A very nice day.

Miami won, New England lost, and Buffalo and New York play tonight. EDIT: Jets beat the Bills in OT but lost their famous QB during the first series before he ever completed his first pass as a Jet. Jets gonna Jet!

Next week Pats host the Dolphins.

Week 3: Baltimore Ravens 37, New England Patriots 26 (1-2) (Sunday, September 25, 2022)

What a disappointing game! The Patriots came back to actually have a good chance to win this one, yet it all fell apart in the fourth quarter. Mac Jones, our QB, left the game injured and may be out awhile. *sigh*

Can I say how much I miss Iron Man Brady? Except for 2008 when he tore an ACL in the first game, he's never been off the field due to injury. He's played through injured shoulders, sports hernias, split/jammed thumbs, and so on. Coach B, you never knew how good you had it!

Miami was the only winner in the division this week. Next Sunday, at Green Bay. Yikes!

Happy St. Patrick's Day! May ye be happy and healthy as spring comes 'round the corner. :)

Parades all over the place last weekend, and the most famous one in Southie (Sout Boston) this Sunday. In this part of the country, every town and hamlet hosts one, it seems. :)

Speaking of the Irish, Tom Brady's back! I KNEW that retirement wouldn't last. Just didn't feel like the real deal.

Weird how it went down, though. Retire for two months and then un-retire? Gotta be some record! Maybe Giselle decided hubby's retirement wasn't what it was cracked up to be. ;)

Guaranteed Tom wouldn't be this flaky if he was still playing for Bill Belichick!

The GOAT has left the building.

Tom Brady has retired! :(

What a joy it was to watch him. He brought the Patriots fanbase 6 Super Bowl trophies and lots of incredible moments and fun along the way. Reports are that he will sign a one-day contract with the Pats to retire as a Patriot. :)

(Wild Card Weekend): Buffalo Bills 47, New England Patriots 17 (10-8) (0-1) (Saturday, January 15, 2022)

Stink, stank, stunk!

No heart, no pride, no NUTHIN'!

The offense made some effort but the defense was abysmal. The Bills scored a TD on seven straight possessions! The Pats' D simply could not stop them, couldn't tackle, couldn't even slow them down. Special teams: meh. Worst playoff performance under Bill Belichick.

A LOT of improvements need to be made in the off-season. They definitely improved since last season and got a promising young QB, but what a dismal performance last night. Ever since the bye week, they regressed big time.

Oh, well, now it's time to root for Tom and the Bucs! :) 1;00 today versus the Eagles.

EDIT: Tom and the Bucs waxed the Eagles, 31-15. On to the Divisional Round! :)

Week 7: New England Patriots 54, New York Jets 13 (3-4) (Sunday, October 24, 2021)

A 50+ burger! :)

Fifty-four glorious points against the hapless Jets. Okay, so it was the Jets, but better to stomp an awful team that get stomped by one. And Mac looked very good, the receivers actually caught balls, the O-line protected the QB, and the defense was rollin'. Special teams were sharp. First win at home this season!

All-in-all, an entertaining game. Coach Belichick loves beating the Jets. He was actually smiling on the sidelines! :)

And Richard Seymour, newly ensconced in the Patriots Hall of Fame, requested this game as the one to honor him. Always extra energy during Jets Week! ;)

Can the Pats maintain a semblance of competence against the Chargers next week? We shall see!

The Pats won, Jets and Dolphins lost, and the Bills were on their bye week.*

"You are what your record says you are."

Boy, Coach Bill Parcells was right when he came up with that quote years ago. Once gain, the Pats had their chances but couldn't execute. Good teams make the plays they need. Mediocre teams are 0-4 at home (first time since the '90s).

Meanwhile, Brady and the Buccaneers sit atop their division with a 5-1 record. How's the post-Brady era workin' out for you, Coach Belichick?

Okay, so a quick recap to catch up:

Week 1: Miami Dolphins 17, New England Patriots 16 (0-1) (Sunday, September 12, 2021

Last-minute fumble kills a possible game-winning drive. Rookie QB Mac Jones looks pretty good.

Week 2: New England Patriots 25, New York Jets 6 (1-1) (Sunday, September 10, 2021)

Jets are awful. 'Nuff said. ;)

Week 3: New Orleans Saints 28. New England Patriots 13 (1-2) (Sunday, September 26, 2021)

Patriots a total mess. Penalties and turnovers! Mac still looking good for a rookie, so there's that.

Week 4: Tampa Bay Buccaneers 19, New England Patriots 17 (1-3) (Sunday, October 3, 2021)

THE game of the season! Tom returns to Foxboro. :)

Belichick's defense keeps Tom in check and Patriots have a chance to win it at the end, but kick doinks off the goalpost. Not Folk's fault: raining hard and well over 50 yards!

Tom and Bill talk in private for nearly half an hour after the game, clearing the air.

Week 5: New England Patriots 25, Houston Texans 22 (2-3) (Sunday, October 10, 2021)

(Preseason) Week 3: New England Patriots 22, New York Giants 20 (3-0) (Sunday, August 29, 2021)

The final preseason game was actually entertaining! Some guys probably made the team, and we all watched the Cam/Mac competition.

Well, that competition ended a few days ago when the Pats cut Cam. The theory is he was told Mac was the starter and he didn't want to be a back-up, so he asked to be released. The thing is, he isn't that good anymore, so I doubt he'll be snapped up as a starting QB. Good luck to him, though, as being the guy after Brady couldn't have been easy!

The Patriots open at home on September 12th to begin the season against the Miami Dolphins.

Yep, I'm posting this the night before, but I might not be on-line tomorrow. I've laid out my green shirt, necklace and shamrock pin. May you enjoy good fortune and happiness! :)

Whoo hoo, we'll never see the likes of Tom Brady again! SEVEN Super Bowl rings! No Hollywood screenwriter would ever dare write that, it's too incredible.

DOMINANT performance by the Bucs, both offense (2 TDs for Gronk!) and defense, and special teams were great, too! So much for a Kansas City dynasty. Call me in 20 years if they go to the Super Bowl 9 times (Pats during TB era) and 10 times (Tom Brady).

'Tis a glorious day! :)
bradygirl_12: (brady (yes!))

January sure has its ups and downs. All the holiday decorations are put away and the tree is in storage, and things are kind of blah, though we did get a snowstorm last night, though only about 3-5 inches. No biggie, but it looks like January now.

TV is slowly making a comeback with shows starting their seasons and sports keep chugging along. Hey, my man Tom Brady is in the Super Bowl again! His tenth trip and an opportunity for a seventh ring! That's crazy! I'll be rooting for him!

No resolutions. I never kept 'em, anyway, so why set myself up for failure, ha? I think I'll just keep to last year's goals: continue writing original fic (2/3 of my third novel is written) and just letting things drift along with fanfic. Seems to be working, so why change it? :)

At least things are looking up politically. Hopefully the honeymoon lasts for Biden at least 100 days.

Okay, gotta get busy writing. Have a great day, luvs!

Week 17: New England Patriots 28, New York Jets 14 (7-9) (Sunday, January 3, 2021)

So endeth the season!

Actually, it was a pretty good game, the Patriots coming back for a win against the Jets was good, and the players had fun. They scored TDs and one was by a tight end, the first time that position scored all year! J.C. Jackson snagged his 11th INT, second-best in the NFL. How this guy didn't make the Pro Bowl is a mystery. What a snub!

Anyway, the season was a bust as far as the division and playoffs were concerned, but not unexpected after Tom left. He had another great game this week and the Bucs are in the playoffs, so I'll probably root for him as far as his team goes. Otherwise I'll be laidback this year as far as watching the games go.

New England and Buffalo won and New York and Miami lost.

See you next season! :)

Week 16: Buffalo Bills 38, New England Patriots 9 (6-9) (Monday, December 28, 2020)

Huh, that was a thing. Yikes!

The Patriots started out with a good drive but a WR unable to catch the ball ended with 3 points instead of 7. And then Cam's rushing touchdown later on should have tied the game 10-10, but our kicker missed the extra point. After that it was all Bills.

Not much to say about this game except poor tackling, not nearly enough offense, and even special teams hiccuping. Bleah all around.

This week Tom torched the hapless Lions for 4 TDS and high yardage in the first half alone, and was taken out in the second half as a mercy gesture to Detroit, I suppose. Yeah, Bill, you're doing great without Brady!

Buffalo, Miami and New York won (looks like the Jets really don't want that No. 1 pick!) and New England lost. Next week the Pats wrap up the season at home against the Jets.

Week 15: Miami Dolphins 22, New England Patriots 12 (6-9) (Sunday, December 20, 2020)

No playoffs!

That's not something we've heard around here since 2008.

The Patriots shut out the Dolphins in the first half, but then the wheels fell off. The trips into the red zone only yielded field goals, not touchdowns. The offense was bad, but the defense couldn't stop a runny nose. The Dolphins ran all over them, and they're not known for a good running game. Sheesh!

Buffalo, Miami and the Jets won, and the Patriots lost.

Interesting note: when the Jets won, they took themselves out of the No. 1 pick in the draft, and in 2021, it's likely very talented QB Trevor Lawrence will be taken No. 1. SO very Jets! :D

Tom and the Bucs win again, and next week, Pats face division winner Buffalo on Monday Night Football. Hoo boy!

Week 14: Los Angeles Rams 24, New England Patriots 3 (6-7) (Thursday, December 10, 2020)

The Patriots aren't mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, but with only a four percent chance of making it, realistically? They are. Disappointing, as it would've been the 12th straight season of making 'em.

It was the usual suspects: an offense that couldn't score in the red zone, and a defense that was trick-or-treat (a condition only good on Halloween). Special teams did their job, but you can't win in the NFL on special teams every week. You've got to move the ball offensively and stop the other guys from moving it.

Tom and the Bucs won their game, so they are definitely in the mix for a wild card.

The Patriots, Dolphins and Jets lost (don't they always?), and the Bills won.

Next week: the Pats are down in Miami!

Week 13: New England Patriots 45, Los Angeles Chargers 0 (Sunday, December 6, 2020)

Well, that was a thing! :)

The Patriots blew the doors off the Chargers, defeating them 45-0, the biggest deficit at home in Chargers' history. All three phases of the team did a great lob: offense, defense, and special teams.

Special teams really sparkled. Gunner Olszlewski ran a punt return back for a 70-yard touchdown, and a blocked field goal resulted in Devin McCourty scoring a TD. Kicking and punting were perfect.

Cam looked good, and the offense actually moved the ball! The defense forced turnovers, and it helped that L.A.'s special teams were atrocious. Charger rookie phenom Justin Herbert got schooled by Belichick. :)

It was a spectacle, and a lot of fun to watch.

No Tom news. He and Tampa Bay were on their bye. :)

The Patriots and Dolphins won and the Jets (of course!) lost. The Bills are playing Monday night.

The Pats have a short week as they play on Thursday against the L.A. Rams in the same stadium. :)

Week 12: New England Patriots 27, Arizona Cardinals 24 (5-6) (Sunday, November 29, 2020)

The game was a microcosm of the season: the Patriots played well in some moments and awful in others but still managed to keep things close enough so that they had a chance at the end. The Arizona kicker missed his field goal but the Pats' kicker didn't, the ball going through the uprights as time expired. Pats win!

Tom and the Bucs lost to KC.

The Patriots, Bills and Dolphins won, and the Jets lost (do they do anything else? ;)).

So, that was a thing. Once again, for the 5th time this season, the Patriots had a chance at the end of the game to tie or win, but couldn't pull the trigger. Talk about frustration!

The defense is really falling apart, and after a really good game last week against the Ravens! Jeez Louise!

So the Patriots, Dolphins and Jets lost, and the Bills were on a bye.

Tom didn't have a great game, which is a sad note for him. Guess it was an all-around crappy week.
