Thank You!

Wow! I wake up this morning and an anonymous gifter has provided me with a paid account for a year on LJ! *squees*

That allows me 82 out of my 285 icons, too. Much better than 15! Though if anyone would like to help out with extra userpic packages, I have the space now ;)

But a HUGE THANK YOU to my anonymous gifter! I now have a few Halloween icons again! And can choose any layout I want. *hurries off to play*

You have made my day! :)

*BIG HUGS*

Bleah!

All of my Halloween icons on LJ are gone because of the userpic packages expiring. Just my luck it'd happen at the wrong time! :(

Meh, might as well whine some more. With the LJ Paid Account expiring in a week, the icons are kaput, anyway. I'm just a spoiled little girl! :)

Oh, well, Happy Halloween a little early!
bradygirl_12: (fairy (blue--reflected water))
*sigh*

Just as fandom becomes extremely important to me again after turmoil in RL, I get notices that BOTH my Livejournal paid account and Livejournal extra icon packages are expiring, the icons in three days (!) and the paid account in a few weeks. Sadly, without a paid account, extra userpics would go to waste.

I have been quiet so far this month but if I can get a handle on things, I might be able to post more fic next month. After all, it will be Halloween!

If any two fannish devotees could help out, I would be most appreciative! Thank you.

***Please note that while this entry appears on both DW and LJ, the expirations of both account and package are on LJ.

Hi, luvs!

A few football notes for you, but first, wow, what a great summer! It's about 62 degrees today, and everything's still green. Rain again today courtesy of the remnants of Hurricane Harvey, but nothing too heavy. Tomorrow is supposed to be beautiful. We have had cool weather for weeks now. *happy sigh* Kind of a Pacific Northwest summer! :)

Football notes: if you're interested in behind-the-scenes stuff, there's a special on NBC tonight at 7:00 P.M. EDT that features the Patriots, a lot of why the coaches decided what they did, and other inside stuff. Those in the media who have seen it already say it's excellent.

Even if you're not a football fan but you like fireworks and hoopla, consider watching the beginning of the football game Sunday night for the raising of the championship banner in Foxboro. Should be fun! :)

Enjoy your Labor Day weekend, my fellow Americans! :)
bradygirl_12: (superman--wonder woman (uncle sam & lady)
A Happy Fourth of July to my fellow Americans! Despite the circus in Washington, we're still here, and that counts for something!

Did the cook-out thing over the weekend (hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, the whole nine yards). I'm going to be spending the day quietly catching up on my reading, writing a little, and maybe working on my Due South records project. I may tune in the James Cagney classic, Yankee Doodle Dandy tonight, in between checking out the show on the Esplanade in Boston.

I'm very happy to watch the fireworks from the comfort of my own couch. Somehow sitting for hours in the blazing sun with thousands of other people awaiting the fireworks show at night doesn't appeal to me. :)

Enjoy your day! Today, we are all New England Patriots! ;)

Happy Canada Day to all of our friends up North! :)

My paternal grandmother was born on Prince Edward Island, so I've got some Canadian in me! ;)

I've also been on a Canadian kick since the Due South Archive was transferred to AO3 and I've been going through 154 records to reformat where I can, add tags, and break up the stories into chapters. I've been rereading the old stories and poems (I wrote a LOT of DS poetry!) and remembering the friends I made in that fandom, many of whom I'm still in contact with today.

The show aired on American TV from 1994-1996 and was revived for a 1998-1999 run. The show was quirky with subtle humor in the first two seasons, poking fun at Canadian and American stereotypes, and it became a hot fandom with the Benton Fraser/Ray Vecchio slash pairing. The show's subtext sometimes was more text! Ray bringing Benny home to meet his mother in the Pilot? Ray the only one to call him 'Benny'? Meeting in a closet at the Chicago Precinct to discuss strategy? Riiiight! Saving each other's lives? Dief (short for Diefenbaker), a deaf wolf who had saved Benny in the Yukon, welcoming Ray into the pack right away? I could go on and on! :)

The revival went on without David Marciano (Ray Vecchio), who was no longer available, so Callum Keith Rennie played Ray Kowalski as the new partner. Paul Gross (Benton Fraser) was given complete control (never give an actor complete control!). He wrote the scripts, starred in the show, and produced. The show's humor went from subtle to broad, and the tone was completely different. Kind of reminded me of the old '70s British SF series, Space: 1999, with Seasons 1 and 2 drastically different. Anyway, there are a lot of Fraser/Kowalski fans out there, but there are still Benny/Ray V. fans carrying the torch. The episodes, including the Pilot, can be found on YouTube.

Due South was one of the first fandoms to successfully straddle zines and on-line archives. During the show's first run, dozens of zines were published, not only in the U.S. but also Canada, the U.K., Australia, and New Zealand. Hundreds of stories were being uploaded to Hexwood (the old name for the DS Archive), and the show stayed hot for several years. I wrote the first Benny/Ray V. slash story (as Jeannie Marie) that appeared in a zine, The Straight And Narrow (the story title, not the zine title). :) In addition to the 154 stories and poems that I uploaded to Hexwood, I wrote dozens more for zines. A great creative time! :)

I also went to the DS con, RCW 139, in Toronto in '97, '98, and '99. I was the DMOB (David Marciano Oestregen Brigade) liaison to David Marciano in '98, and let me tell you, I've never seen more gorgeous green eyes! :) I continued DMOB duties in '99, but David was not a guest that year. I did bring Ray Doll in '98 and David got a big kick out of the knitted doll. :)

In '98, the Toronto Daily Mail published a story on slash fiction with Benny and Ray V. excerpts. I can only imagine what David thought reading the paper with his morning eggs! ;) But he's a very cool guy. Very courteous to the fans and a good sport, too.

I've finished 140 records and have 14 more to go! Whoo hoo! :)

Good morning, my lovelies, and a BIG Thank You to [livejournal.com profile] catalenamara, a dear and generous friend who answered my plea for help with my extra userpics. You are a Peach Among Peaches, my dear! *hugs*

It's a very nice boost considering I've been under-the-weather all weekend, so I am extra happy that I can play with my icons. You guys are so generous! *wipes tear* Love you all, and especially Cat this morning! :)

As always, enjoy what you will from my posts. I am working on some new fanfic that you might like and am always interested in your posts. I have learned a lot about people on LJ and must say that my flist has quality people. :)

Have a good day, my friends! Happy Vernal Equinox! :)
bradygirl_12: (shamrock (classic))
A Happy St. Patrick's Day to you all! :)

Might be going out tonight. The pubs and restaurants love St. Patty's falling on a Friday.

I was running a fever yesterday but it broke during the night. I'll be drinking lots of water today and maybe some ginger ale to settle my stomach.

Wearin' my green today. Green shirt with a shamrock pin.

Lovely day, bright and sunny! Enjoy! :)

Help!

Argh, once again I come hat in hand. My userpics package will expire by the 21st. With medical expenses, my rent being raised, and tire repairs, I have nothing left for this renewal. I'd like to enjoy fun icons like the one on this entry (it always makes me giggle), and add a few for the Wonder Woman movie soon.

If anyone could help me out, I would be most grateful. Thank you, and Happy St. Patrick's Day! :)
bradygirl_12: (chocolate heart)
Happy Valentine's Day, my friends! May your day be a joyous one. :)

Whoops, gotta go get some breakfast. I'll be going to the early showing of Lego Batman with some friends, and then we'll be visiting my sister as she recovers from surgery at home. Enjoy your day! Review to come. ;)

Imbolc

Hope all who celebrate had a good Imbolc today. :)

For everyone, Happy Groundhog Day! :)

I've been enjoying Super Bowl Week. Found out that Tom Brady's mother has been very ill for the last 18 months, just about the length of time he suffered through the witch hunt by the NFL. He got choked up talking about his hero, his father, during Media Night. He's very close to his parents and his older sisters. His parents go to every game, though this year the illness prevented that. When he first moved to Massachusetts to start his career, two of his sisters came from California to stay with him that first year with the Pats. :)

Got an invitation to a Super Bowl party at my sister's. We might get pizza or Subway sandwiches or BunnyGirl might cook. Up to her! :)

Well, going to turn in now. Zzzzzzz!!! :)
bradygirl_12: (yule (deer))
Ah, 'tis the Week-Before-Christmas-Week. My sister is on vacation for nearly two weeks and she's loving every minute of it! Hope you are all enjoying the holidays.

A Merry Yule to all who celebrate! It's the shortest day and longest night of the year. Stay warm, luvs! :)

Hi, luvs!

The incomparable [livejournal.com profile] rileyc has contributed a story to my 2016 DCU Fic/Art Halloween Challenge. Her story summary is the perfect summation: "Magic finds a way." - John Constantine. Enjoy! :)

Even though there was only one entry into BradyGirl_12’s 2016 DCU Fic/Art Halloween Challenge (it appears I made the right decision to make this the last one), I like to be a completist and so am creating this Master List for 2016. And, if you have any fanwork you'd like to add while the grace period is on, please do! We are going to be in the midst of a lot of holiday schmoop (which I love, BTW), but if you want something with, ahem, a little more bite to it, add your Halloween fanwork's header and link to the Main Page and I'll take care of the rest for you.

Enjoy the tale of the Bat-Family caught up in the weirdness of the Twilight Zone! :)

The wind was cold as clouds passed across the face of the moon, momentarily blocking its silvery light. The street was empty of pedestrians and only a few cars drove by as it was fifteen minutes before midnight. A display of grinning Jack O’Lanterns glowed at the entrance to the park a few blocks away. )

Happy Halloween, guys and ghouls (yes, I went there)!

Enjoy the day and evening. Magic is in the air! :)
bradygirl_12: (jack o'lanterns (glowing))
Hi, luvs! A quick reminder that Halloween is almost upon us! This is my final 2016 DCU Fic/Art Halloween Challenge and I'd like to make it a good send-off. There's a generous grace period if Halloween has come up too fast for you.

Speaking of Challenges, I'm cooking up one for Wonder Woman next year to celebrate her first-ever live-action movie. It'll be the last of my Challenges, and I'm hoping it will be a success. I'm thinking of kicking it off on the movie's Opening Day, and will decide when the posting window closes. 2017 could be a WONDERful year! ;)

BTW, Lynda Carter was fantastic as the Prez on Supergirl this week! :)
