To celebrate the opening of the Wonder Woman movie, here are some classic stories:

Jewels In The Crown II: Heritage deals with Diana’s restlessness on Paradise Island and her mother’s wise counsel about her heritage.

Eve Of Battle: the Trinity before the battle is met.

By-The-Sea III: Angel, Baby follows Diana and Steve during a retro weekend of fun. :)

So I had a good idea of these two and their teamwork. The JLA had heard of it, but hearing is different from seeing. They had their opportunity during a mission several years ago… )

Argh, once again I come hat in hand. My userpics package will expire by the 21st. With medical expenses, my rent being raised, and tire repairs, I have nothing left for this renewal. I'd like to enjoy fun icons like the one on this entry (it always makes me giggle), and add a few for the Wonder Woman movie soon.

If anyone could help me out, I would be most grateful. Thank you, and Happy St. Patrick's Day! :)
bradygirl_12: (wonder woman (golden warrior))
Argh, word is that the Wonder Woman movie is as bad as BvS (http://movieweb.com/wonder-woman-movie-insider-review-disaster-mess/), but I'm still willing to wait to see for myself. Would I be surprised if the movie stunk? Hell, no, considering the DCEU's movie track record, but I'm still a bit wary of 'insider' leaks. Could be someone eager to declare another DC disaster? Even with all the red flags on BvS, I still went to see for myself first before judging. And, yes, it was a slogfest, but Diana has beaten long odds before!

Hola, my friends! If anyone can break the DCEU's lousy track record, it'll probably be the Amazing Amazon! :)
bradygirl_12: (robin (eyes shining bright))
Omigosh! I just saw The LEGO: Batman Movie yesterday and it is adorable! The cute factor is to the max! :) There were some laugh-at-loud moments, quite a few chuckles, and lots of smiles. I LOVE it!

And Robin’s yellow cape sparkles!!! )

I highly recommend this movie to any comics fan, Bat-fan, and especially, to any Dick Grayson fans! :) I give it an A, maybe even an A+ because of how happy I felt leaving the theater, and still smiling when I think about certain scenes and lines.

So rev up the Batmobile and get yourself to a movie theater quick! You won’t regret it! :)

And Robin’s yellow cape sparkles!!! ;)

I just got back from viewing Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice. Spoilers behind the cut.

Let me sharpen my skewer to shish-kebab this steroid-infused side of beef )

Here is my spoiler-free recommendation. I recommend seeing this film in a first-run theater if you:

Don’t want to be spoiled.

Enjoy the historic importance of Superman and Batman meeting for the very first time in a big-screen live-action film.

Enjoy the historic importance of seeing Wonder Woman in a big-screen live-action film for the first time evah!

Enjoy the historic importance of seeing DC’s Trinity all on screen together in a big-screen live-action film for the first time.

Enjoy seeing Batman and Superman beat each other to a pulp like two idiots on the local playground.

If none of the above applies to you, then wait to see this on Netflix, or if your first-run theater has a Bargain Day (I did that today), or the movie ends up at a bargain movie theater in a couple of months.

Letter grade: C+. The ‘+’ is all for Wonder Woman, otherwise this would be C-.

Stars: 3 out of 5. 1 star is all for Wonder Woman, otherwise it would be 2 out of 5.

I guess it’s the squandered potential that gets me, but what can you expect from a man (Zack Snyder) who is inspired by Frank Miller? Miller, the guy who made Batman a psychotic who kidnapped Dick Grayson after his parents' deaths and forced him to sleep in the Cave and eat rats, and later Miller character-assassinated poor Dick in a way that I can’t even wrap my head around.

Miller, who made Superman a spineless Government stooge, Diana a vicious man-hater who called men sperm receptacles, made the rest of the JLA idiots and buffoons, and made Black Canary immediately have sex with the Bat-God upon their first meeting. So I guess we were spared most of that, except for the Bat-God beating up Superman. Boy, I wanted Clark to give Bruce a good shot!

I don’t know how many fanworks will come out of this movie. I’ll bet money that it won’t be on par with the first Avengers movie or Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier.

*puts away skewer for now*

Okay, Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice is finally here! I plan on going next week on Bargain Day to see this foundation of the DCCU. I chose a profile icon to celebrate Clark and Bruce, even though they probably won't say a civil word to each other in the entire movie. I'll probably replace it with a Wonder Woman icon soon, as she is emerging as the best thing in this film. Wouldn't it be a kick if a Wondy movie actually saved DC's bacon after they took 76 years to present her on the big screen in a live-action flick?

I won't be reading any reviews until Tuesday, but go ahead and write them! I plan on checking back after I've written my own. Hopefully this movie will be better than we think. Huzzah for the World's Finest! :)

In honor of our boys, take a walk down Memory Lane or enjoy the fun for the first time with World's Finest #289. It's canon, folks! ;)

Yikes!

Early reviews for Batman vs. Superman are mostly negative: dark, violent and ultimately boring, with Wonder Woman the best part of the film, according to the critics.

I'll let you know my opinion after I see it next Tuesday. Maybe the critics are wrong, but I'll give you a complete rundown when I get back. It doesn't even disturb me about the reviews since I half-expected it. A movie due out in July of 2015 pushed back to May of 2016, then changed to March because the studio doesn't want to go head-to-head with Captain America 3: Civil War kinda gives you a hint, along with the trailers looking like they were filmed during an eclipse, everything's so dark. *squints*

Supergirl 1x3

I really like this series. It’s the first DC-related thing I'm really enjoying in years that isn’t fanfic.

The day was as beautiful as Steve had declared early that morning. It was the kind of day that was made for beachgoers: bright and sparkling and free. It was sun and sea and relaxing on beach towels under the cool shade of an umbrella. )

Steve drove the ’57 Chevy down the road, the Atlantic Ocean sparkling under the sunshine to his and Diana’s right. He whistled a jaunty tune while Diana smiled. People walked along the beach with a few stretched out on towels. It was a cool June day as Steve kept an eye out for excited kids crossing the street. )

I found a notification in my inbox this morning that the wonderful [livejournal.com profile] crooked_halo has extended my extra userpic packages in addition to generous Anon! *dances* Wow, what a great thing to wake up to this morning! THANK YOU, m'dear! MUCH appreciated! :)

Still stressed this week but I hope that a major worry gets resolved in my favor. *hope, hope, hope* Maybe my creative juices will start to flow again once some stress is gone.

I am working on a long WIP at the moment, and still no idea about any Big Bangs this year. I'm hoping that Avengers 2: The Age Of Ultron helps inspire me in a few months. I'm not sure if the Superman vs. Batman movie will do the same, but that might be next year, anyway? Whatever the case, I think Marvel has the better chance of jump-starting my creative battery cables. ;)

I did have another WIP that was going along pretty well until it fell by the wayside. Hopefully I can pick that up in 2015. We shall see.

Again, BIG THANKS!!! I have the best f-list in the world! :)

bradygirl_12: (pumpkin muffin (bats))
It's been a glorious day! :)

1) Dunkin' Donuts has pumpkin everything back! :) I went out this morning and bought a pumpkin muffin and pumpkin pie doughnut. The doughnut's gone. ;)

2) My sister is helping a friend out with a yard sale. We had a ginormous one last year before the move. This time she's not in charge, just one of the staff. :)

3) I've been watching the Ken Burns documentary, The Roosevelts: An Intimate History and plan to see the finale tonight. I've studied that era of the New Deal so I know a lot of the facts/events but I'm seeing new photographs and newsreels. I enjoy immersing myself in another time. The Great Depression was terrible, but the energy that the New Deal generated to combat it was exciting. And the coming war certainly taxed FDR's considerable political skills! Anyway, great stuff. :)

4: One more: watching The Adventures Of Superman. It's from the black-and-white first season with Phyllis Coates instead of Noel Neill as Lois. Apparently Phyllis came across as 'too tough' and so they replaced her with Noel. I like her and she was tough, too, but they considered her more 'feminine'. Sheesh!
bradygirl_12: (superman--batman (modern heroes--color))
I've heard of the Man Of Steel sequel that will feature an adversarial relationship between the World's Finest, because fighting each other is what people want to see. Who cares about friendship and working together? Anyway, a few message boards I sampled said it would be dud, stupid, etc. They said since Man Of Steel was so awful this would be even worse, and what kind of fight could Batman put up against Superman if you were going to be gritty and realistic? Most people say ugh to DC and will stick to Marvel's movies.

Now, admittedly, I didn't think Man Of Steel was great, but it was good enough to hold my interest in an AU kind of way. And seeing Superman and Batman FINALLY together on the big screen? That's a plus. Even if the movie is awful, it'll probably still rake in the bucks. We'll see in two years, anyway.

You know who should sue the pants off Hollywood? The holders of the rights to the Lone Ranger and the Green Hornet. Hollywood screwed up twice with the Lone Ranger and Tonto and let Seth Rogan (Really? Seth Rogan?) totally mess with the Green Hornet and Kato.

Oh, well, hopefully DC will finally get on track and create a good movie for the World's Finest, though I won't hold my breath. It seems as if the Justice League movie will be even years in the future.
