Happy Halloween, everyone! 🎃

I did post a Halloween story. Even if you're not familiar with the fandom (McHale's Navy) you still might enjoy this spooky tale: The Twilight Zone IV: The Invasion Of McHale's Island. There is some slash but not the focus of the story. However, if you enjoy some light canoodling and protectiveness interspersed with danger, this is the story for you. 👻

Hi, luvs!

CBS is showing the first 3 episodes of Evil this Wednesday, January 1, 2020, from 8:00-11:00 P.M. If you'd like to sample this show, you can see the Pilot and early episodes that night (or DVR it).

If you like a cleverly-written show with excellent acting, unexpected twists, and chills 'n' thrills, this is the show for you! :)

Even the background music is exceptional, especially the violin strings, which speed up the tempo when, well, evil approaches. ;)

Notes of Interest: Seminarian David Acosta is played by Mike Colter, who also played Marvel's superhero Luke Cage. Wow, no wonder Jessica Jones was so smitten! Yummy all around with a smooth-as-silk voice. :)

Michael Emerson as evil Leland Thompson gives you the chills!

All this is on CBS of all places! Not HBO or any other place which would feature buckets of gore. This show is allowed to feature things that would have been unimaginable even ten years ago on network TV, but its restraint makes the show bwtter, IMO. Sometimes subtle can even be scarier! :)

Anybody watching Evil on CBS (Thursdays, 10 P.M.)? Very compelling, excellent acting and writing.

A skeptical forensic psychologist allies with a priest and a contractor to investigate purported supernatural incidents.

They've shown 9 episodes so far with No. 10 airing this Thursday, December 12th. CBS has already renewed it for a second season and it's getting critical acclaim.

You can easily catch up if interested On Demand, CBS.com, and the usual suspects websites. :)

The past few years the comm has been observing the Korean War on its anniversary date of its start, June 25th (1950). It's not officially scheduled this year but I wanted to mention it, and chose The Manchurian Candidate as my offering.

This 1962 film is a chilling take on the concept of brainwashing, which became known in the 1950s, especially during the Korean War. What were the Communists doing to our POWs, especially those choosing to stay in Communist North Korea and China?

This movie dramatizes that question with stand-out performances by Frank Sinatra, Laurence Harvey, Janet Leigh, James Gregory, Leslie Parrish, and most notably, Angela Lansbury. Ms. Lansbury's performance was one of the most chilling ever seen on screen. She should have won an Oscar for this one!

Not many chuckles in this film (the level of violence is shocking for 1962) but if you watch it, pay particular attention to James Gregory's McCarthyesque character complaining about needing a firm number for his Communist witch hunt (not seen in the trailer). The next cut will make you laugh out loud. :)

The film was released on October 24, 1962, right in the middle of the Cuban Missile Crisis!

Well, what's a tribute to Berlin without the movie One, Two, Three? :)

This 1961 film stars James Cagney at the top of his game (ironically, it was his last film before he came out of retirement for 1981'a Ragtime), snapping off dialogue with crackling energy. The Cold War one-liners were fast and furious as Coca-Cola's Man in Berlin angled for a prestigious promotion while dealing with his boss's daughter, who married a Communist! Zounds!

Anyway, the movie was filmed before and released after the Berlin Wall went up, so it was somewhat of an anachronism on its debut!

I must not hang out in the right places on-line because I completely missed the first four episodes of Timeless. Saw nothing about them starting up again, and the only ads I've seen are for this Sunday's episode about JFK. The premise is that Rufus and Wyatt bring a 17-year-old JFK back to the present after a mission goes awry. Of course that presents the problem of how do they prevent JFK from learning his horrific fate on November 22, 1963? I'm going to tune into NBC this Sunday at 10:00 EDT to find out!

Anyway, I've been catching up on the eps I missed and am enjoying them thoroughly. I'll probably review them in one post once I finish No. 4. I highly recommend this show!

Lately I've been writing short pieces, which is good as I wasn't writing much there for awhile. The problem now is that I don't have the energy to edit! :)

Oh, well, I've got 10 stories in the Queue, so there should be a steady stream of new fic to post.

I watched Scoobynatural, the first and only time I'll watch Supernatural, mainly because modern horror is always filled with gore, and, yep, they had to do bloody things up for the Scooby gang, too. *sighs* But the episode was clever and I enjoyed it.

Hola, my friends! We've got four entries so far (and not all mine, tee hee) in BradyGirl_12's 2017 DCU Fic/Art Wonder Woman Love Diamond Anniversary Challenge! Sure, a lot of focus will be on the Movie, but this Challenge celebrates ALL of Diana's rich history, so if you've got an idea for comicsverse, 'toonverse, or the Lynda Carter TV show, don't hesitate! All types of fanworks welcome. Diamonds are an Amazon's best friend! ;)
bradygirl_12: (steve--diana (my goddess 1))
I highly recommend this movie. I initially gave it an A- because of some flaws, but I gave The Avengers an A+ because it was nearly perfect, and this movie came close for me. I guess you could split the difference and give it an A, but in any case, it’s A-level! ;)

Okay, here’s my review, filled with spoilers, of course:

Hola! )

So, yeah, I LOVED THIS MOVIE! It was everything I’d hoped for: a good story, great Steve/Diana moments, Diana being kick-ass and compassionate, and saving the DCEU’s bacon critically and at the box office. Leave it to a woman. Great Hera! :)

I just got back from the Wonder Woman Movie.

Quick hit:

GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!

I also like the idea someone suggested about charging women 85% of the ticket price, reflecting the gender wage gap.)

Enjoy this video ad that played during Supergirl's finale (Nevertheless, She Persisted 2x22) featuring Kara and Alex, the American President (Lynda Carter) and Daxamite Queen Rhea (Teri Hatcher) Boy, Supergirl's America is a lot luckier than us when it comes to the White House! :)

Well, riffling through my draft folder, I realized that I had never posted my review for Captain America 3: Civil War! Oh, well, little chance anyone will be spoiled by now, but it'll be behind a cut just in case. It's unedited, so these were my first impressions. Enjoy!

%%%%%%%%%%%%%

Wow, just saw Captain America 3: Civil War! I give it an A- overall. The first Avengers and first two Captain America movies were A+ ratings for me, because they were nearly perfect. This film got a lower grade because I'm not a fan of the Civil War premise (hated it in the comics). I prefer my superheroes working together against a common foe instead of beating each other up.

However, this film was leagues better than Batman vs. Superman: Dawn Of Justice.

Spoilers galore )

Ready for our Amazing Amazon? :)

I'll be hosting my final BradyGirl_12 Challenge on [community profile] wonderwomanlove and Wonderwomanlove (LJ), my comms dedicated to the Amazing Amazon. Check 'em out and join up! Truly, history will be made with the release of this film, and hopefully we've got a lot of fannish inspiration coming our way. :) Details on the Challenge soon, and [personal profile] ctbn60 has already created a fantastic banner, ready for all participants. Stay tuned!

Might be why the movie has been set during WWI because of the vitality of the Movement.)

METV is beginning the Season 1 cycle of the Lynda Carter '70s TV show tonight (8:00-9:00 EST). Season 1 took place during World War II and also featured many scenes on Paradise Island with Diana's mother and sister Amazons. What made Wonder Woman special was in this first season, not so much in the later seasons which were updated to the '70s, IMO.

Hi, luvs! A quick reminder that Halloween is almost upon us! This is my final 2016 DCU Fic/Art Halloween Challenge and I'd like to make it a good send-off. There's a generous grace period if Halloween has come up too fast for you.

Speaking of Challenges, I'm cooking up one for Wonder Woman next year to celebrate her first-ever live-action movie. It'll be the last of my Challenges, and I'm hoping it will be a success. I'm thinking of kicking it off on the movie's Opening Day, and will decide when the posting window closes. 2017 could be a WONDERful year! ;)

BTW, Lynda Carter was fantastic as the Prez on Supergirl this week! :)

Hi, luvs!

I'm only going by the promos, as obviously the show debuts tonight, but if you're a fan of time travel, you may want to give Timeless a look. It's on NBC tonight at 10:00 and hopefully will be a good show. :)

Fall is finally here! After an early September heat wave, we're in cooler weather now. The trees are starting to turn, and I've got my baby pumpkin and gourds decorating my place. The colors are all red, yellow, and orange with some black thrown in for Halloween! :) My sister and I will be going to the orchard in a few weeks and I might take a trip soon to Trader Joe's for some mini pumpkin pies and cookies. :)

Football is in full swing, and the real season begins for us Pats fans with the return of Tom Brady from his unjust suspension. Watch out, NFL! Could be scorched earth if we're lucky!

Have a good day and enjoy the best season of all! :)

The [livejournal.com profile] marvel_bang and [livejournal.com profile] dcu_bang will be opening soon for artists to claim stories (this Saturday at noon EDT). Stories are up now for early perusal, so if you're interested, check 'em out! Marvel's are here and DC's are here. Marvel has 35 stories and DC has 5 this year.

Funny how Muses work. My [livejournal.com profile] marvel_bang started slowly, even though I had the beginning and end and some scenes I wanted to put into the middle. For whatever reason, despite my deadlines, it was slow going at first, to the point that I wondered if I would have to drop out (which would have been a first for me!) but this past week has been all Big Bang, and I should have the last chapter finished this week. *fingers crossed* I did have to submit my manuscript at the final check-in at 80% instead of 100%, which is a first for me. Still, it's been a lot of fun and I look forward to seeing if an artist claims my story today. :)
