It's Halloween Week!!! :)

Yes, it's the best time of year. The colors of the trees around here are at their peak, brilliant yellows, oranges and reds, and the harvest of pumpkins and gourds are bountiful. The weather is cool and they are predicting snow showers on Friday!

My sister and I went to the apple orchard the Saturday before last and picked up fresh apples, an apple pie, and giant cookies. I got peanut butter for the cookie. :)

We went to The Old Mill again and she had a big Caesar salad while I had pot roast, red bliss potatoes, and we shared boneless Buffalo wings for an appetizer. We also shared lemon meringue pie for dessert. Yum! :)

The ducks were gliding along the pond and the mini waterfall was gushing after recent rains. It was beautiful as usual. Ironically, it had been years between visits to this restaurant on my birthday last month, and now it was only a matter of weeks between that visit and this one. Ha, life is funny!

The IonPlus Channel is presenting spooky episodes of Murdoch Mysteries on Halloween from 11:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. They do spooky very well! :)

Enjoy the week, folks!

Well, I just found out yesterday that It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! won't be on broadcast TV anymore. It's moved to Apple+, a streaming service. Same for A Charlie Brown Christmas.

I don't like it. The airing of these specials gives you a communal feeling. Streaming is a niche. I don't care if they're offering it free for a few days. A lot of people are going to miss out.

One thing about the days of the Big Three networks? What they showed was free, and usually accessible, as eventually everyone ended up owning a TV, especially as prices went down. Now you pay for cable and, in addition, streaming services.

Did you ever own a DVD or DVR something but come across that show or movie when channel-surfing, and you decide to watch it, anyway? Because you know other people are watching it at the same time, not just you as with a DVD/DVR.

It's our human need for connection. That's why if movie theaters go the way of the dinosaur, it'll be a sad thing. Despite the overpriced tickets and concessions, it's still a communal experience. Huh, I'm an introvert and I'm pushing for communal experiences! 2020 is defintely a weird year.

Goodbye, 54 years of tradition! >:(

I had a GREAT birthday yesterday! My sister and brother-in-law treated me to dinner at The Old Mill, a restaurant in a lovely setting. The food was fabulous. My sis and I had the grilled haddock and my bro-in-law Yankee pot roast. I also had a baked potato with light butter and we all shared Buffalo wings as an appetizer.

I also had a cool surprise: ice cream cake with real whipped cream for dessert! I got serenaded and all three of us made short work of that cake, tee hee! :)

On the way home we stopped and BunnyGirl and MooseGuy picked up pumpkins and gourds (I already had mine) but they gifted me with a baby ghost pumpkin for my birthday. :)

At home we watched the rest of the Pats-Raiders game, which was a Pats win, so yay, me! :)

After BunnyGirl and MooseGuy left I watched Tom Brady win his game with the Buccaneers, and then I tuned in Murdoch Mysteries. I'm lovin' this Victorian/Edwardian Canadian mystery show! :)

So I was a very happy camper! :)

Happy First Day of Fall!!!

Oh, it's here. Chilly days and cold nights, leaves just starting to turn, gourds and pumpkins and apples popping up in farm stands and supermarkets. No Fall TV season this year, but Nature is all in. I'm so excited! :)

Hi, luvs!

I'm only going by the promos, as obviously the show debuts tonight, but if you're a fan of time travel, you may want to give Timeless a look. It's on NBC tonight at 10:00 and hopefully will be a good show. :)

Fall is finally here! After an early September heat wave, we're in cooler weather now. The trees are starting to turn, and I've got my baby pumpkin and gourds decorating my place. The colors are all red, yellow, and orange with some black thrown in for Halloween! :) My sister and I will be going to the orchard in a few weeks and I might take a trip soon to Trader Joe's for some mini pumpkin pies and cookies. :)

Football is in full swing, and the real season begins for us Pats fans with the return of Tom Brady from his unjust suspension. Watch out, NFL! Could be scorched earth if we're lucky!

Have a good day and enjoy the best season of all! :)

Hello, luvs!

It's HALLOWEEN WEEK!!! :)

It's the best time of year! The trees are in full color, the harvest is bountiful, and the darkness falls quicker every evening. Whispers of mystery sigh through the trees, and Jack O'Lanterns glow in the windows. The sweet smell of woodsmoke pierces the air as the days grow colder.

Time for the 2015 DCU Fic/Art Halloween Challenge, too. If you have an idea but can't quite make it by Halloween for posting, don't worry. My Late Entries Policy takes care of that. Besides, Halloween can be celebrated any time of year. :)

Enjoy this special week, my friends! :)

Hi, luvs!

Fall is in full swing here. The trees are starting to turn colors and the weather, while a little too warm for my taste, is semi-autumnal. I’ll be going to the orchard one of these weekends soon (getting some fresh apples and an apple pie), and the apartment is decorated with red, yellow, and orange, complete with ceramic and real pumpkins. :) I even have my flying Witch on the front door!

A reminder that the 2015 DCU Fic/Art Halloween Challenge is running. If you have a Marvel Comics idea that you can crossover with DC, remember that crossovers are welcome, and is not limited to Marvel.

I bought some apple/pomegranate lotion the other day. It smells divine!

I usually don’t buy doughnuts or muffins, but during October it’s a weekly run to Dunkin’ Donuts to get both in pumpkin flavors! Dontcha just LOVE pumpkin flavor?

I received my Trader Joe’s Frequent Flyer in the mail a few days ago. It’s the October (Pumpkin) edition. Sweet!

Patriots/Cowboys this Sunday! Whoo hoo!

I’m going to a Halloween party next Wednesday. I’m going as a Patriots fan with my Tom Brady jersey, my Patriots cap, and anything else I can scare up that’s Pats-themed. :)

It's the BEST week of the year! ;)

I entered my pumpkin into the contest here at the building. I doubt it'll win. It's very simple compared to some of the elaborate entries, but it was fun to enter. I drew a Mr. Spock face on one said and lettered LIVE LONG AND PROSPER on the other side. ;)

Reminder to everyone: if you have something Halloween-themed, consider my 2014 DCU Fic/Art Halloween Challenge! It'll probably be the last year for it, as there is only one entry (my own). I guess my little Challenges just aren't inspiring anyone anymore, or all the Halloween-lovers left LJ. :(

Enjoy a spooktastic week, everyone! ;)

After a few days of very hot weather, thunderstorms cleared things out Wednesday night and it's back to fall weather here. It's so cool on my balcony early in the day that even when it's hot out front, I have to wear long pants and a sweatshirt when I sit outside! :)

School started this week. I'm very glad I went to school when it started the day after Labor Day. Maybe it's good to go for a short week and get the next Monday off, but I think it's a better mindset for kids to have the entire summer off before starting the school grind again. Freedom is fleeting. Soon enough they'll be stuck in the rat race of adulthood. It's nice to have free summers while you can get 'em.

My sister told me to keep September 27th (a Saturday) open on my social calendar. Yay! Looks like I'm going to get a nice birthday surprise when the time comes. :)

I changed the layouts of my journal and comms, which is always a fun little task.

I heard that Hollywood's summer season is down 25% from last year. Can't say I'm surprised. My Movie Night buddies and I have skipped several times in the past six months because there just hasn't been anything even remotely interesting. I've talked to other people and they've cut way back on going to the movies, too. There's just very few 'must-see-right-away' movies for them. They just wait to see them on Netflix on FX or whatever.

It used to be that Hollywood would save their big guns for the actual summer, then they began moving back to June, May, and finally, now it's April. Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier would have been the blockbuster released in July or August. Besides, just about every movie on the cineplex schedule is a sequel or remake. Very few original films. And most of those are low-quality, because Hollywood keeps going to well 'til they drain it dry.

Writing is kind of like a rollercoaster lately. It was going well for awhile and then nothing the last few nights. The only time I have to write is at night and I've been exhausted with absolutely no energy. :(

I'm hopeful that autumn will get my blood going! After all, autumn means the changing of the leaves, pumpkins and apples and Halloween and, oh, yeah, my birthday! ;)
bradygirl_12: (bat o'lantern 2)
Yay, it’s Halloween! Appropriately cold and foggy this morning. I have a sweater that’s orange-yellow-and-black with a grinning Jack O’Lanterns design that I’m wearing today. ;) I painted my nails blood-red and coated them with sparkle polish. I have my candy ready in my plastic Jack O’Lantern, though if the weather isn’t great with rain, I may get no trick-or-treaters. They have dwindled over the years, alas. Kinda like LJ.

There’s always a special something in the air on Halloween, during the day and especially at night. Maybe it’s magic. ;)

And the Red Sox won the World Series! First time since 1918 they won it on their home field. There were 15,000 fans in 1918 to watch that historic championship (a heckuva lot more last night!), mainly because of the Great Influenza Epidemic and the warning for people not to gather in crowds because of contagion. The Sox won their Series in 2004 and 2007 away.

Big Papi was walked most of the night. The Cardinals finally woke up and stopped pitching to him. There were other heroes, guys like Shane Victorino and Steven Drew knocking in the runs. You know something special was happening when Jacoby Ellsbury was able to wiggle out of a rundown and get back to first base! Lackey and Tazawa and Workman and Koji were fantastic on the mound.

I wish my parents and grandparents had been able to see at least one World Series in their lifetimes, but if there’s a Heaven, they’re smiling down from it today.

Yesterday was a sad day so I wasn't on LJ much. Didn't feel very sociable. :(

Today things are better. I wanted to let people know that the poll for my 2011 LJ Fifth Anniversary Fic Request Meme (Build-A-Fic) will be up until tomorrow. I'll close it then and see if I can started this weekend on some stories! :)

So, vote early and often, as the grand Chicago tradition goes. ;) We'll see how the stories come out.

Tonight ABC is airing It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown! at 8:00 EDT. Always a classic! ;)

Hi, luvs! Since I'm in a Halloween mood and food is always on my mind, despite the fact that I've lost twelve pounds in the last two months (Go, diet!), I'd like to ask if you have any Halloween-oriented recipes you'd like to share. They can be old family recipes or copied off a box or bag of ingredients or store-bought goodies, LOL! Cookies, cupcakes, pies, or other types of food welcome! Soup? Stew? Good for a cold autumn night? Post your recipes here or link to your journal or to a site where there's cool stuff! Pumpkin flavors are especially yummy!

Title: Heartland II: Apple Pie, Pumpkins, Popcorn, And The Bluebird Of Happiness (2/4)
Author: BradyGirl
Pairings/Characters: Clark/Bruce, Dick, Jonathan/Martha
Genre: Drama
Rating: R
Warnings: None
Spoilers: None
General Summary: After recently being outed by the press, Clark and Bruce visit Smallville with Dick.
Summary: Holy Great Pumpkin, Batman! ;)
Date Of Completion: December 14, 2007
Date Of Posting: December 18, 2007
Disclaimer: I don’t own ‘em, DC does, more’s the pity.
Word Count: 1154
Feedback welcome and appreciated.
Author’s Notes: Written for the World’s Finest Gift Exchange. When I saw Prompt F41 (Clark and Bruce’s first visit to Smallville as an open couple (your choice whether Clark’s parents know about the relationship already). Bonus points for including a range of reactions from the inhabitants of Smallville, not just happy ones. Rating: Any.), I knew that it would fit in perfectly with this series. This is a prequel to Heartland I: "Truth, Justice, And The...", and you need not have read the first story to enjoy this one, as this story was written especially for the WFGE. As this prequel takes place several years before the events of Heartland I, Dick is around 11 years old in this story.
I hope this is what the requester was looking for. I enjoyed writing it! :)
All chapters can be found here.

Today was a lot of fun. My sister and I went and picked up apples at a local orchard, enjoying the trees that have begun to turn their autumn colors. We saw (and will see when peak foliage time occurs in the next few weeks) colors that ranged from rusty gold to lemon-yellow to reddish-brown to burnt orange to fiery red. Some years the colors are dulled and others are so bright they are eye-achingly brilliant.

We each chose small pumpkins and gourds for decorations. I was able to get pumpkin-shaped gourds and multicolored gourds shaped like swans, with the elegant curve of neck and a hint of feathers. :)

We ate at a modest café that had very good food. I had a turkey club sandwich and potato salad and my sister enjoyed a veggie burger.

We ended the day out with a trip to a candy store that was decorated for Halloween and had free samples. :) We each picked up some boxes of chocolate and lollipops, and laughed over Chocolopy, a game with a chocolate theme based on Monopoly. ‘Go to Chocoholics Anonymous’. ;)

Tomorrow, we get together for football!

And I just finished watching the new episodes of Legion Of Super Heroes and The Batman! Comments to come! :)
