Color is exploding all over! :)

It's not peak color yet, which makes it a little later this year, but it's definitely in the works. When you're surrounded by a blaze of autumn color, you feel like you're in another world: fiery red, brilliant yellow, blazing orange. All gorgeous, all around. The ash trees are nearly done (always early turners) but now the red maples and sassafras and everything but the sugar maples are giving us a show. The sugar maples are the last act and are as golden as King Solomon's mines.

I'm also happy to be going at a good pace with my multichaptered The Alienist/Murdoch Mysteries Halloween fic, Mr. & Mrs. John Moore (aka Sara Howard Moore) VIII: Beaded Pearls. Three chapters up, seven to go!

Also working on a spooky McHale's Navy fic, which is not part of the Sparkling Stars 'verse. I had the premise but was stymied by what would be the events of the actual plot, but it seems to be coming along. *dances* Hope you're enjoying autumn! :)

It's Halloween Week!!! :)

Yes, it's the best time of year. The colors of the trees around here are at their peak, brilliant yellows, oranges and reds, and the harvest of pumpkins and gourds are bountiful. The weather is cool and they are predicting snow showers on Friday!

My sister and I went to the apple orchard the Saturday before last and picked up fresh apples, an apple pie, and giant cookies. I got peanut butter for the cookie. :)

We went to The Old Mill again and she had a big Caesar salad while I had pot roast, red bliss potatoes, and we shared boneless Buffalo wings for an appetizer. We also shared lemon meringue pie for dessert. Yum! :)

The ducks were gliding along the pond and the mini waterfall was gushing after recent rains. It was beautiful as usual. Ironically, it had been years between visits to this restaurant on my birthday last month, and now it was only a matter of weeks between that visit and this one. Ha, life is funny!

The IonPlus Channel is presenting spooky episodes of Murdoch Mysteries on Halloween from 11:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. They do spooky very well! :)

Enjoy the week, folks!

Happy First Day of Fall!!!

Oh, it's here. Chilly days and cold nights, leaves just starting to turn, gourds and pumpkins and apples popping up in farm stands and supermarkets. No Fall TV season this year, but Nature is all in. I'm so excited! :)

Hope everyone is having a good Earth Day. The weather here was very spring-like. I did my part by cleaning my apartment and sorting my recycling. :) I also took long walks and observed the buds on the trees and bushes.

Enjoy spring showers and flowers! :)

Hello, luvs!

It's HALLOWEEN WEEK!!! :)

It's the best time of year! The trees are in full color, the harvest is bountiful, and the darkness falls quicker every evening. Whispers of mystery sigh through the trees, and Jack O'Lanterns glow in the windows. The sweet smell of woodsmoke pierces the air as the days grow colder.

Time for the 2015 DCU Fic/Art Halloween Challenge, too. If you have an idea but can't quite make it by Halloween for posting, don't worry. My Late Entries Policy takes care of that. Besides, Halloween can be celebrated any time of year. :)

Enjoy this special week, my friends! :)

Hi, luvs!

Fall is in full swing here. The trees are starting to turn colors and the weather, while a little too warm for my taste, is semi-autumnal. I’ll be going to the orchard one of these weekends soon (getting some fresh apples and an apple pie), and the apartment is decorated with red, yellow, and orange, complete with ceramic and real pumpkins. :) I even have my flying Witch on the front door!

A reminder that the 2015 DCU Fic/Art Halloween Challenge is running. If you have a Marvel Comics idea that you can crossover with DC, remember that crossovers are welcome, and is not limited to Marvel.

I bought some apple/pomegranate lotion the other day. It smells divine!

I usually don’t buy doughnuts or muffins, but during October it’s a weekly run to Dunkin’ Donuts to get both in pumpkin flavors! Dontcha just LOVE pumpkin flavor?

I received my Trader Joe’s Frequent Flyer in the mail a few days ago. It’s the October (Pumpkin) edition. Sweet!

Patriots/Cowboys this Sunday! Whoo hoo!

I’m going to a Halloween party next Wednesday. I’m going as a Patriots fan with my Tom Brady jersey, my Patriots cap, and anything else I can scare up that’s Pats-themed. :)

Whoops, forgot I was doing this meme, LOL! Anyway, here are the happies for the day:

1) Color is everywhere! We're at peak color here and the trees and bushes are fantastic.

2) I bought a pumpkin to use in the building's pumpkin decorating contest. I might go with a Mr. Spock theme, not sure yet. :)

3) I got directions on where to vote. It'll be my first time at this polling place and the website's directions were awful. I asked the building manager and he was able to give me excellent directions. I like competent people!

After a few days of very hot weather, thunderstorms cleared things out Wednesday night and it's back to fall weather here. It's so cool on my balcony early in the day that even when it's hot out front, I have to wear long pants and a sweatshirt when I sit outside! :)

School started this week. I'm very glad I went to school when it started the day after Labor Day. Maybe it's good to go for a short week and get the next Monday off, but I think it's a better mindset for kids to have the entire summer off before starting the school grind again. Freedom is fleeting. Soon enough they'll be stuck in the rat race of adulthood. It's nice to have free summers while you can get 'em.

My sister told me to keep September 27th (a Saturday) open on my social calendar. Yay! Looks like I'm going to get a nice birthday surprise when the time comes. :)

I changed the layouts of my journal and comms, which is always a fun little task.

I heard that Hollywood's summer season is down 25% from last year. Can't say I'm surprised. My Movie Night buddies and I have skipped several times in the past six months because there just hasn't been anything even remotely interesting. I've talked to other people and they've cut way back on going to the movies, too. There's just very few 'must-see-right-away' movies for them. They just wait to see them on Netflix on FX or whatever.

It used to be that Hollywood would save their big guns for the actual summer, then they began moving back to June, May, and finally, now it's April. Captain America 2: The Winter Soldier would have been the blockbuster released in July or August. Besides, just about every movie on the cineplex schedule is a sequel or remake. Very few original films. And most of those are low-quality, because Hollywood keeps going to well 'til they drain it dry.

Writing is kind of like a rollercoaster lately. It was going well for awhile and then nothing the last few nights. The only time I have to write is at night and I've been exhausted with absolutely no energy. :(

I'm hopeful that autumn will get my blood going! After all, autumn means the changing of the leaves, pumpkins and apples and Halloween and, oh, yeah, my birthday! ;)

Hi, luvs! I’m baaaack! Didja miss me? :)

It’s been a crazy week. I’ve been on a rollercoaster of emotions. Today was the last day I went over to the house (more on that later).

Before I go to the cut, I’d like to offer fic to whomever is kind enough to renew my extra userpic packages. I’ve lost so much lately that it would be nice to hang on to my full complement of icons. Thank you! The expiration date is May 14th.

Come join me for Moving Tales )

It's Halloween Week!!! *squees*

Man, the energy is just swirling around like the leaves! It's a gorgeous fall day, all golden and orange and crimson, and the weather is just right: cool enough to wear a jacket but not uncomfortable. Crisp air and the bounty of the harvest ready to be enjoyed.

A few weeks ago I went to the local farm stand and bought a baby pumpkin and gourds, all colorful as the leaves were all bright around me. There were giant gourds shaped like swans and other interesting shapes. :) Big pumpkins and little ones. Colorful Indian corn. Mums of red, orange, and yellow!

Houses are decorated on the street, some with autumn themes of cornstalks and scarecrows and pumpkins while others are spooky Halloween themes, complete with grinning Jack O'Lanterns and pumpkin lights! ;) One house has an inflatable Haunted House on their front lawn, LOL!

This is the week I usually see a flurry of submissions for my current Halloween Challenge, and while I may just be whistling past the graveyard this year, I bet something pops up in the trick-or-treat bag! *dances*

I've got a Witch cut-out on my front door and a vampire on the back. Lots of decorations and I have to get my plastic Jack O'Lantern handy and filled with candy! ;)

So get ready, boys and ghouls, for the magic in the air of the Night of Nights and the costumes of the kiddies as they shuffle through the fallen leaves up to the door and yell, "Trick-or-treat!" and the adults party hearty in full costume! :)

A Merry Beltane to all! A lovely day to celebrate, eh? Flowers and trees beginning to bloom. :)

A quick reminder that the 2013 DCU Fic/Art Dick Grayson Challenge continues until May 31st, the end of this month, though of course you have time to catch up with the Late Entries Policy. We already have some fun entries as seen on the Master List.

Sign-ups are now open for the [livejournal.com profile] dcu_bang and [livejournal.com profile] marvel_bang. I signed up for the [livejournal.com profile] dcu_bang this year. :)
bradygirl_12: (autumn leaves (orange))
A Merry Mabon to all! 'Tis the Autumn Equinox and a fine day it 'tis, too! Started out cloudy but is now bright and sunny and with those blue skies that you only see with fall. The trees are beginning to turn and they should treat us to a fabulous show very soon! :)
bradygirl_12: (autumn leaves (orange))
Hi, luvs! Thanks for all the well wishes as I sat out the storm. As reported, just minor damage, more a nuisance than anything else, and I still have power! The winds weren't even that high, which is good, because after all the rain, the trees were primed for trouble.

I'll be doing 'housekeeping' duties here on LJ by changing the layout of [livejournal.com profile] wonderwomanlove, putting out notices about the current Challenges and updating the Classic Fic Of The Month! :) I already changed the layout of my LJ and put up a brand-new icon for my Profile. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ctbn60 for the lovelies! :)

A quickie Big Bang update for you. Looks like I'll easily reach the 10,000-word minimum for this one, happy to say! :) It's about half-finished. I might tighten up the rest because of all my other projects, but the stuff I cut out won't short-change the story. This first draft is due on October 1st, so I have to keep up the pace! :)

I'm not sure what I'll be doing this year for my 5th LJ Anniversary in October. Usually I take requests but with all my writing commitments...well, maybe I'll take a limited number of requests, six or so. What do you guys think?

I saw Avatar a few days ago!

Spoilers 'n' squee! )
bradygirl_12: (Robin (Shining Bright))
The back and front yards have been looking gorgeous the past few weeks. The ash, locus, and sassafras trees have dropped their leaves (yellow, green, and yellow-red-orange) but now the sugar maples are in full glory. They are a brilliant lemon-yellow and covering both yards. I raked up several bags after the first wave and now will have to get busy on the second wave. :)

The other maples are a fiery burnt-orange, and the burning bushes are starting to turn red with undersides of pink. The cherry tree dropped its golden leaves long ago, but is standing stark and strong against the azure sky.

The pine trees dropped their needles, and the spruce tree is sturdy and towering about a dozen feet up, ready to be decorated for Christmas/Yule. The holly, English boxwood, and arborvitae are doing well.

And now white can be added to the list of colors. We had our first significant snowfall yesterday, about an inch. Very pretty!

When I woke up yesterday, I knew we were in for snow. After you’ve lived in a place your whole life, you feel it in your bones: snow’s coming! :) I didn’t need a weather forecast to tell me. I just had to step outside and felt it. A couple of hours later, snow began to fall.

Thanksgiving's tomorrow and the weather should be good. If you're looking for Thanksgiving fic and haven't read it, check out Family I: Thanksgiving by yours truly! :)
