Hi, luvs! I’m baaaack! Didja miss me? :)

It’s been a crazy week. I’ve been on a rollercoaster of emotions. Today was the last day I went over to the house (more on that later).

Before I go to the cut, I’d like to offer fic to whomever is kind enough to renew my extra userpic packages. I’ve lost so much lately that it would be nice to hang on to my full complement of icons. Thank you! The expiration date is May 14th.

Saturday was good weather, thank goodness. The family came over on time to the house and my sister and brother-in-law came with the moving van. I wasn’t sure if all the stuff would fit in one van, but it mostly did, and some items were put in my car and other cars. We loaded for almost 90 minutes and unloaded even quicker. I didn’t take a bed over to the new place, deciding I needed a new one, anyway, and it would temporarily give me more room for the boxes and bags. Good thing, because the bedroom was filled with a few pieces of furniture but mostly the moving stuff. I’ve been trying to clear out one or two boxes a day, but it’s slow going as I only have so much storage space, unlike at the house. Some things will have to go, including zines.

The apartment is bigger than I thought it would be. The furniture fits nicely: my computer desk, a stereo set with lots of storage space that the TV is on top of, my mom’s hope chest, a dining room set, a couch, various chairs, and a dresser, bureau and cabinet in the bedroom. Also a wonky bookcase as one end was broken off. Have to get that fixed or put a book under it to steady it.

We took the gazebo furniture and it’s out on the balcony now, along with some of my plants. I’m supposed to get a visit from Maintenance tomorrow and direct them as to where to put nails in the walls so I can hang some pictures and calendars.

The colors of the apartment were customized so I chose pale yellow for the kitchen and bedroom, pale pink for the bathroom and kept the living room neutral white. The floor is polished wood and I have two old-fashioned ceiling fans. Pretty cool, huh? There’s also an opening between the kitchen and dining room so you can see each other. Very nice design.

My paternal grandmother was one of the first residents when the place opened fifty years ago, so it’s kind of karmic. :)

We celebrated with a pizza party after the moving was done :)

Advantage versus disadvantages of apartment over house:

Advantages:

No more:

Lawn mowing

Leaf raking

Snow shoveling

No more worrying if the furnace will conk out during sub-zero weather.

No more yard work of any kind.

Covered garage (had one at home, too)

Disadvantages:

Not as spacious, but less to dust and sweep

Paying for laundry

Less privacy—I am not bothered by anyone, but every time I leave my apartment I might meet someone and have to make nice. :) As an introvert, sometimes on occasion I never spoke to a solitary soul all day, and only communicated through the computer. While I wouldn’t recommend it as a daily routine, I always felt well-rested after such a day and not bothered in the least if I hadn’t spoken to anybody.

Building rules—of course there are rules when owning a home, but sometimes rules in an apartment building can get persnickety.

Later mail delivery—I liked dealing with my mail early in the morning, done for the day! Here I have to wait.

If I had the money, I never would have left home, but the taxes are rising and all the heavy work had to be done by me. Here it’s done for me, and all I have to do is follow the rules, keep my place swept and dusted, and not be a noisy resident! ;)

I’ll always miss my home. It’s sad to leave it. I said my goodbyes to the house, which is a source of many happy memories, and to my blossoming cherry tree which Dad planted, and the tree that was damaged during the '85 hurricane (Gloria) but thrived when we doctored it. :)

At least the place I moved to is nice, with lovely grounds and the apartment is airy and spacious in a good neighborhood. I have a double balcony and two windows, so I get lots of light. Though it does feel like I'm in a hotel sometimes, albeit no maid service. Just as well. Even with a 'Do Not Disturb' sign, you can't really sleep late if you want the maids to make up the room for the day and give you fresh towels and stuff. I can sleep as late as I want and take care of my own cleaning.

It’ll take me awhile to catch up on things, but I’ll be around now! :) There might even be fic! I finally found my notebooks.

I missed you guys! I was thinking of you during my hiatus. Glad to be back! :)

Yay! You made it safe and sound! Good luck getting everything out of boxes and settling in, Brady. That can take half of forever. My husband and I have been in our house for over 7 years and we still have a few boxes sitting around. XD

Glad the move went smoothly and that you're getting settled into the new place. I can sympathize with missing the old place but hope your new digs feel like home soon.

Ah, it's so nice to know you're around! I'm glad that the moving worked well and now I'm sure it's still a while until you finally fully settle in. I remember moving into this apartment felt strange at first too. I still thought of the other place as home for a while and the first weeks were a little surreal sometimes.

Yeah, that's exactly the feeling. When I moved out from home my mother also moved out of there and so it was this strange feeling of never being able to go back to that place where you grew up and all, and then the new flat was strange and new, but also comfortable and just like I wanted it too. I'm sure the nostalgia will always stay, but the new place will also be home soon. *hugs*

It certainly sounds like a nice place. I'm sure with time you'll settle in and the next thing you know it's home.

And, just think, with none of that pesky work of keeping up a house, there'll be more time for writing ( as if you need it! *g*)

250 bags!!! What a nightmare! I'm so glad I've never lived in a place which requires raking leaves.

I'm glad the apartmen is nice. Did you get your pictures hung? I hope they don't charge extra for that!

Hugs!
