It's Halloween Week!!! *squees*

Man, the energy is just swirling around like the leaves! It's a gorgeous fall day, all golden and orange and crimson, and the weather is just right: cool enough to wear a jacket but not uncomfortable. Crisp air and the bounty of the harvest ready to be enjoyed.

A few weeks ago I went to the local farm stand and bought a baby pumpkin and gourds, all colorful as the leaves were all bright around me. There were giant gourds shaped like swans and other interesting shapes. :) Big pumpkins and little ones. Colorful Indian corn. Mums of red, orange, and yellow!

Houses are decorated on the street, some with autumn themes of cornstalks and scarecrows and pumpkins while others are spooky Halloween themes, complete with grinning Jack O'Lanterns and pumpkin lights! ;) One house has an inflatable Haunted House on their front lawn, LOL!

This is the week I usually see a flurry of submissions for my current Halloween Challenge, and while I may just be whistling past the graveyard this year, I bet something pops up in the trick-or-treat bag! *dances*

I've got a Witch cut-out on my front door and a vampire on the back. Lots of decorations and I have to get my plastic Jack O'Lantern handy and filled with candy! ;)

So get ready, boys and ghouls, for the magic in the air of the Night of Nights and the costumes of the kiddies as they shuffle through the fallen leaves up to the door and yell, "Trick-or-treat!" and the adults party hearty in full costume! :)

*excited*

The pix fit into my [livejournal.com profile] dcu_bang entries! And the cover doesn't look all squished. :) Yay! :)

Wow, I feel at loose ends! I've been working on this project for so long it's weird to have nothing to do now until the unveiling, which will be in a few weeks. I hope you'll enjoy it and marvel at [livejournal.com profile] ctbn60's artwork. :)

Okay, a gentle reminder that the 2013 DCU Fic/Art Halloween Challenge could use contributions! We have two so far but I'd love to see more. :)

Pressed for time? Not sure if you can finish by Halloween? Check out the Late Entries Policy so you can still be 'official'.

Need inspiration? Check out the Fic/Art Challenges page and you'll find links to past Halloween Challenges collected there.

Remember, any length of story accepted! Art does not have to be as elaborate as the Sistine Chapel! ;) Crossovers welcome with any of your 'hot' fandoms you think fits with DC Comics and Halloween.

I know that LJ is less-populated now (though I did hear that some fans are cautiously returning) but there's still a lot of us here. How can you let Halloween go by without some tasty Witches' Brew? ;)

Thanks for all your previous support. :)

Hey, flist! Any plans for Halloween? I'm going away this weekend but should be back by late afternoon on Sunday so will be handing out trick-or-treats dressed in a top, long skirt, and shoes (all black), my Witch's hat, my silver pentagram, and the broom I got from Old Sturbridge Village years ago. ;) I'll have on sparkly make-up and paint my nails sparkly red. The Patriots game will be playing on TV in the background. Darn, I really hate to give out the Reese's Peanut Butter Cups! They're my favorite! ;)

Clark was captivated by the Amulet. It felt heavy in his hand, and the lapis lazuli sparkled in the soft light of the room. )

Witch City

In the spirit of the season (ha ha), I'm linking Salem, Massachusetts' Haunted Happenings here at my LJ. It might help inspire some contributions to the 2008 DCU Fic/Art Halloween Challenge and the October Prompt (Magic) for the 2008 Wonder Woman Love Fic/Art Calendar Challenge. :)

I visited Salem on Halloween three times in the '90s, took part in the ritual on Gallows Hill, and marched down to the city holding a candle. Alas, no Witches' Ball! ;) But the atmosphere of the city was charged with magickal energy, though I'm not sure if the ultra-commercialism that has evolved would dampen any of it. I think I got in under the wire for a 'true experience'. ;)

Hopefully I can impart some of that experience in one of the Halloween fics I plan to post this month. :)
