Fenway Park's 100th Anniversary
Apr. 12th, 2012 06:58 pmHi, luvs! Tomorrow is Opening Day at the Boston Red Sox venerable Fenway Park, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary. They plan more ceremonies next Friday on the 20th as that's the actual date they opened in 1912, the week that the Titanic sank. News of that event pushed the opening off the front page.
Fenway is the oldest ballpark in America. My grandparents and parents attended games there, and there's nothing like the first time you go and walk up the ramp and see that emerald jewel of a field with the Green Monster (the famous left field wall, aka the Wall) rising majestically up to the sky. You can feel the history in the place! The park has been renovated in the past ten years but if you look at a photograph from any decade before this one, it's basically the same.
( Reminisces )
