What, you didn't think another one was coming? ;)

2008 DCU Fic/Art St. Patrick’s Day Challenge

Well, ‘tis fast approachin’ the Day of the Irish, aka St. Patrick’s Day! ;) And since I have some of the blood of the Auld Sod in me, and live in a state whereby it’s a holiday (Actually, it’s Evacuation Day, commemorating the day in 1775 when the British vacated Boston, but if you ask 10 out of 10 people what day March 17th is, guess what they would say? ;) ), I thought I might throw this out there and see what our lads and lasses in the DCU might do. I’m sure they enjoy partying! ;) I mean, the JLA uses any excuse to throw a party, right? ;)

Here is the Master List.

What follows is a list of prompts, a minimum of two required for your story plus the Special Prompt.

Artists/icon-makers/manip-makers, please choose at least one of the prompts (can be the Special Prompt or not).

Please note: the Setting prompt is just one of many prompts.  Unless you choose it, you need not set your story or art there.

Genre: Humor, romance, hurt/comfort, drama, etc.  You know the drill!  J

Probably this holiday will inspire more upbeat stories (partying!) but dramatic tales are welcome, too.

Pairings (or threesomes, etc. ;) ): Slash, het, gen (this is DCU but if you’d like to write Clex, hey, that fits into the DCU!  And this also includes not only comicsverse but movie-and-toonverses)

Rating: G all the way through to NC-17.  Any story length.

Posting dates: February 17th-March 17th, 2008  (If you don’t make the deadline, don’t worry.  We want to read your fic or look at your awesome art even it’s past St. Patrick’s Day!)  J

As always, please post your contributions here on this Main Page.  If I get enough entries, I will do a Master List.

So here we go, writers, artists, icon-makers, manip-makers!

Prompts

Parade

Green beads/necklace

Shamrocks

Leprechauns

Green beer! ;)

Green carnations

Green badges/buttons (Bonus points for making up sayings on both, such as VIP—Very Irish Person)

Red hair

Green eyes

Irish stew

Corned beef and cabbage (It's tradition! I had to include them!  ;) )

Rainbows

Pot o’ gold

Setting: Boston, or any place in Massachusetts (Salem, Cape Cod, Provincetown, etc.) or just mention the city or state.

VIP (Very Irish Person): Original character, DCU character whom is Irish or could be said to be Irish or part-Irish.  Mention of real-life Irish people: Tom Brady of the Patriots (of course! ;) ), JFK, etc.

Celtic Magic/Mysticism: Your story or art can include any Celtic legend or myth you’d like to add (What if leprechauns were real?  What if a Druid showed up?). Make up a legend or myth if you like! ;) Modern-day Wiccans/Pagans would fit, too!

Special Prompt

How many green objects can you include in your story/art?  The wearing of green clothing is traditional on St. Patrick’s Day, so you can describe any article of clothing as green.  You can include any of the prompts that fit above.  Also, you can include characters such as Green Arrow, Green Lantern, or the Martian Manhunter!  ;)  Or just mention them.  Heck, mention the Boston Celtics and it counts! ;)

Any other green objects (plants, trees, Poison Ivy, heh heh) are all eligible for inclusion!

Remember, the old saying is that everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day!  It’s a day to celebrate Irish heritage (whether you're Irish or not), have fun with family and friends, and in this case, have fun with the DCU characters!  So, enjoy!  J

I don't know if I'll be able to participate in this one! :( I'm just feeling very St. Patrick's Dayed out at the moment. I've been making jewellery for it for the last 2 weeks, so... *shrugs* But I may be able to come up with something!

St. Patrick's Day is so weird this year! On the 15th because of Easter. *scowls at the interfering Church*

Oh wow, this is a challenge just tailor-made for Mister Redheaded Green-wearing Bar-owning Guy Gardner. How can I resist?

I'm just browsing through, cause I don't really write fanfic, but the challenge sounds amazing. Someone needs to write leprechaun!Wally, cause I mean, he does already have green eyes and red hair. Best leprechaun ever!

It seems that thoughts of leprechauns are encouraging me to write something, though. Dargh.

Oi, also:
This challenge was linked in a dcu_freeforall post. So, is this a dc_freeforall challenge or is it just a random challenge of yours?

Any length I assume?

(You have me rereading Super Friends comics. This must stop.)

Well, the first Irish character that came to mind was the old Jack O'Lantern character, before the JLE killed him and made him evil and stuff. And his stories were all Super Friends backups. But lord, the flashbacks I'm having...

Who else is supposedly Irish or part Irish in the DCU anyway?

Drake is an English name. It's a very old one - from back to the 1200's.
