You know, the more I think about this reboot, the rage increases! I stopped caring about canon eons ago, but this...this...the 'new emphasis' for Superman takes the CORE ESSENCE of the character and twists it. The GENIUS of his origin is being despoiled! *shakes fist at DC*

Bruce's core essence remains the same, Clark's is completely changed, and Diana? She's always messed with by DC, so that's nothing new.

How ironic is it that Smallville is now more true to the character's essence than the new canon will be in the fall?

Oh, well, what can I expect from a company when, back in the '80s, when a writer asked Editorial if he could write Barbara as shot in The Killing Joke, the reply was, "Sure, cripple the bitch."

Frankly, comic books are such a damned mess that I won't be surprised if they're extinct like the dinosaurs within a generation or two.

I wish that too, but I know it won't be so. I already have a friend who has standing subscription orders to a bunch of the new series just because they're DC. She hasn't read anything about the reboot, she buys it because of the logo. :(

That's an interesting question, C.! They are taking letters again in the books. Maybe there's an address for general letters on the website.

Advise your friend to hold off on those books! Some of the reboot may be interesting (I'm waiting to see what happens with Wondy) but the Superman reboot sounds awful.

I have tried to convince her to hold off to no avail! D: A lot of those reboots sounds awful, IMO. xD I'm not even a Jason Todd fan, but Red Hood and the Outlaws was the only one to sound remotely interesting to me. >.<

You know, I really don't blame you for being enraged. I read your earlier comments about Superman and felt a bit of stirring in my anger regions. I can't believe it!

It makes me really sad that Smallville is going to be truer to his character, because I never liked that show. D:

Also, I feel really bad about what happened to Barbara (though they're fixing her in the DCnU I think) but the way you worded that last paragraph made me laugh. :x

And that quote is supposed to be verbatim about Barbara. Little wonder that they tortured Steph with a power drill, raped Sue Dibny, and have done nothing of note with Wonder Woman for years.

I heard about the changes. What a shame. I can't believe they're making him less "Clark" and more "Kal-El". It just feels wrong. :(

I have very little hope for the movie. Marvel can make decent live-action movies, but DC, except for the two Nolanverse Bat films, cannot.

And I might be in the minority here, but I never liked Barbara as Batgirl. Now they're getting rid of the current Batgirl (no news what will happen to her since the DCnU)

Seems like they are making everyone more Kryptonian, right? Even Kara in the new Supergirl series.

I am so sad and angry and disappointed by this whole reboot thing. I don't understand why they are remaking the wheel. I suffered under another fandom being killed out from under me, Star Trek, due to one man's remaking of the wheel. I just hope and pray that the very weight of the Superman mythology can withstand this prayerfully short and doomed experiment. My favorite Superman is Dean Cain in Lois and Clark. He kept Clark very human with Superman what he does, not who he is. I guess I'm gonna have to rely on fandom and maybe but the Lois and Clark the box set in order to get through this tragedy!

I think that it is the ultimate arrogance to take something so iconic with so much history and just change it because you think you know better........SMDH!

The key words are the weight of the Superman mythology. If the sales increase, we're stuck with this version. If the sales drop like a stone, they'll reboot again. I just don't want to wait around ten years or more for them to fix this.

Rely on fandom, m'dear! It's what kept Star Trek going in the '70s when there was very little hope of a movie or anything else. Fandom thrived. We can do the same.

TPTB at both DC and Marvel are arrogant asses who delight in tearing down, not building up the legacies they've been given.

You're probably in the majority about Barbara as Batgirl. Most prefer her as Oracle. I don't.

Kara is getting screwed again. She was just coming into her own in the comics and now she's back at Square One.

I thought the biggest reason for the change was because of the lawsuit between DC and estate of Superman's creators. The estate got the origins and DC got the character. So it'd make sense if they have to come up with a new origin story. I'm not making excuses for the quality but just the reasoning.

I'm undecided about the Bat changes. I liked Damian and Dick together but I'm happy about Nightwing coming back. Not sure about Barbara back as Batgirl, but I like Simone (writer) so I'll give it a chance.

I think Dick is the best Bat for Damian, but I'm not a Damian fan, so I like Dick back to being Nightwing.

Barbara will always be my Batgirl, so it's up to Gail to see if she's written right.

The fact that they are turning Clark into an emo teenager like all their other characters, whether actual teenagers or not, doesn't surprise me. Bruce, of course, doesn't get to be an emo teenager because he's the mean old daddy who is cruel to his poor kids. *throws up*

I know, right? Clark is being de-aged and gets to be all emo, and Bruce will be the mean ol' daddy. Man, DC has screwed over Bruce over the years, too. They love to write him as a cold-hearted jerk who is so shut down emotionally you wonder why anyone sticks around.
