Divisional Round (Week 19): New England Patriots 45, Denver Broncos 10 (14-3) (1-0) (Saturday, January 14, 2012)
Whoo hoo! Hello, my friends. What a GLORIOUS morning! :)
Tommy was MAGNIFICENT last night!!! Records set and broken, the crowd was crazy, the cold was frigid…
Lots to say, so I’ll put it behind a cut. ;)
Tommy threw 5 TD passes in the first half, breaking the record for one half of playoff football, and tied the all-time record of six for an entire game. The Patriots set a playoff record of points (45) for the franchise, and Gronk tied the record for playoff TDs by a tight end: three. Aaron Hernandez was incredible, Wes Welker fantastic, and the offensive line kept Tom clean and upright most of the night.
The defense played its best game by far of the year. They were aggressive and smart and fast. Granted, they were playing the worst team in the playoffs (Denver got in at 8-8) but anything can happen in a one-game playoff, as we saw with the 49ers bouncing the Saints out. BTW, congrats to San Francisco fans and commiseration to the New Orleans fans. I’ve been on both ends of that stick!
Stand-outs on defense were Vince Wilfork, Devin McCourty, Patrick Chung, Mark Anderson, LeVar Arrington, and many more. Special teams were sharp, especially Stephen Gostkowski, our kicker, and Julian Edelman, punt returner.
Tom did have an INT which was his fault, and that was early in the game. The Broncos were still close (it was 14-7 at the time) and you hoped Tommy wasn’t going to have a rough game, but he came back and was stellar the rest of the game, even punting 49 yards. Whatta guy! ;)
He threw three TD passes to Rob Gronkowski, one to Aaron Hernandez, one to Wes Welker, and one spectacular 61-yard pass to old friend Deion Branch.
Brady holds team records for most playoff games with three or more TD passes (four); most yards passing in a playoff game (363); most postseason completions (450); most yards passing in postseason (4,770); most TD passes for a career (36); and most postseason victories for a quarterback (15)
Tebow and the Broncos? Except for showing some life early in the first quarter, they could get nothing done on offense and were leaky on defense. More negative yardage plays than positive seemed to happen, especially in the fourth quarter.
Tebow has a LONG way to go to get even close to Tom Brady. Tom came out with fierce intensity. After two straight years of one-and-done in the playoffs at home, he and the team knew that they had to win this game, and they did so decisively.
Tebowmania annoys me because this guy’s a rookie and not fit to tie Brady’s shoelaces when it comes to talent, at least not at this stage in his career. I’m sure that Tom was annoyed at all the attention that Tebow was getting when he was putting up another Hall of Fame season and is one of the best to ever play the position of quarterback.
Nothing is guaranteed in the playoffs, and if either Baltimore or Houston comes to Foxboro next week, there’s no lock that the Patriots win, but they have shown they have tremendous talent and, of course, a star quarterback. Baltimore’s defense is worrisome, and even the Texans aren’t pushovers. Any team that gets to the AFC Championship Game is not about to be knocked over with a feather.
Can Tom repeat his stellar performance next week? Can the defense play like the Patriots of old again? Tune in next week on CBS at 3:00 on Sunday, January 22nd! :)

Date: 2012-01-15 06:44 pm (UTC)I love watching Gronkowski, and I'm happy for the Patriots. I was really in a win win game, I enjoy both teams, I was just hoping for something more competitive. The efficiency and the speed of the Patriots O was the best I've seen all year, they scored like two touchdowns in the last five minutes of the half.
And in true Coach B fashion, he didn't stop till the game was over. I was wondering if they were going to pull Brady or Gronk or Welker or Hernandez...but the Dark Lord shows no pity, haha.
I hope the Juggernaut continues, especially against the Ravens, I want the Ravens to be ruined and left for dead.
And same thing with any NFC teams.

Date: 2012-01-15 06:56 pm (UTC)The Patriots just showed that they were the better team by far, which is nothing to be ashamed of on the Denver end. Things always cycle in the NFL. :)
Gronk is amazing! The entire offense is unstoppable as long as Tom has time to survey the field. Even if he doesn't. ;) As long as the offensive line gives him time, he'll slice the other team to ribbons.
You're right, the Dark Lord never shows pity! ;) Though later in the game they did pull back. Tom might have gotten his seventh TD if they hadn't.
The Ravens are scum! ;)

Date: 2012-01-15 10:22 pm (UTC)The Ravens O looked very bad, and if the Texans had a more experienced QB, they would have won that game. I have no doubt that the Patriots will be able to, if nothing else, bury the Ravens in a shower of points.
Any team you want to see from the NFC?

Date: 2012-01-15 11:34 pm (UTC)I felt bad for T.J. Yates. He's a rookie and he messed up. I'm sure he won't sleep tonight!
I wouldn't mind seeing any of them. The Giants have that history in the Super Bowl with the Pats so they're probably the bottom of my list, but I think the Pats can take any team that makes it. Right now the Giants are beating the Packers with another turnover!

Date: 2012-01-15 10:48 pm (UTC)Next week is going to be harder for sure but if the Texans can make it that close with what must be the most useless quarterback on a quality team, I figure the Pats can take out the Ravens.

Date: 2012-01-15 11:38 pm (UTC)Tom CAN be pretty bashful at times. It's part of his charm. ;)
He can be a little dorky but like Clark, that just makes him sweeter! :)
The Ravens beat them at home in the playoffs but that was two years ago. Hopefully the result will be different this time. :)

Date: 2012-01-15 11:26 pm (UTC)And Tom was amazing. And so was Welker and Gronkowski and all the rest. :D
I'm sure the Pats will do great against whoever they wind up against in the next game. (Looking to be like the Giants, but I changed it to something else. :D)

Date: 2012-01-15 11:40 pm (UTC)He's not a very good quarterback. It's doubtful that he'll last long-term in the NFL, but he might if he works at it.
The offense was spectacular! And the defense really played like the Pats of old last night. :)
Still could be the Giants. ;)

Date: 2012-01-16 12:16 am (UTC)There's some people on my facebook page who keep saying that he should be a tight end instead and that he shouldn't have been drafted as a quarterback.

Date: 2012-01-16 12:32 am (UTC)Looks like Green Bay is going home. They can't pull out this game this late. Another highly-favored team bites the dust.

Date: 2012-01-16 04:51 am (UTC)And Tom's punt was awesome! I loved the smile on his face after he did that. So cute. :D

Yeah, that was a heartbreaking loss. I am in the Bay Area but I was rooting for the Saints. But the better team won. At least I do like Harbaugh. I think I was more disappointed that the Giants went through ... I'm hoping they'll fall to the 49ers next week.
The media really annoys me. They just latch on to one thing/person and we'll never hear the end of it. Someone was saying that Tom was practically anonymous coming into this game, which isn't right, considering his talent and his record. At least he shut them all up with his performance, which is all that matters!

Date: 2012-01-16 04:00 pm (UTC)He's the cutest! :)
The Giants could be troublesome. Let's hope the 49ers knock 'em off next week.
The media takes a person/topic and wrings it dry until everyone's sick of it, even the media! It WAS a travesty that Tom was so overlooked. He deserves acclaim and giving it to Tebow instead was just ridiculous. Tommy shut them all up! :)
