"My Beautiful Angel"
1861 C.E.
"MY BEAUTIFUL ANGEL"
Steve awoke to heaven as he always did with Diana by his side. He could smell the faint jasmine scent of her perfume and the strawberry aroma from her favorite shampoo. She was strength and muscle beside him in the Amazon way with womanly curves. Her soft, dark hair spilled over his arm as she curled up against him. He slowly opened his eyes, drinking in her beauty. She truly had the face of an Angel. He gently kissed her temple, and her eyelids fluttered open.
“Beloved.”
“Hi, Angel.”
Diana kissed him and Steve felt a mix of love and desire. He pulled her close to him, her voluptuous body pressed against him. His arousal was evident and she smiled, guiding him into her as he moaned in pleasure, burying himself deep into her wet warmth.
He thrust gently at first, knowing that he could not hurt her, but he couldn’t start out rough. He kissed her shoulders and breasts and she cupped his buttocks hard, leaving bruises on his fair skin, badges of honor.
His urgency increased and she moaned, desiring his passion and he thrust in harder, taking this Goddess with all his skill and strength and love. He could feel his climax building as he looked down at her, her face suffused with passion. He gave one final thrust and came, his hot seed spilling into her, welcomed and desired.
He collapsed on top of her, her strong fingers carding through his sweaty hair. He kissed her breasts. They were quiet except for their heavy breathing, the sound of the air-conditioner rattling in the window.
Finally Steve eased himself out, rolling onto his side next to her.
“Mmm, Beloved, you never fail to satisfy me.”
He smiled, admitting to himself that his male ego liked the sound of that. Her fingers still stroked through his hair. “You flatter me, Angel.”
“I speak the truth.”
His smile grew brighter. He kissed her, his hand cupping her breast. She purred in delight.
“You gave a great speech today, Angel.”
“Thank you, Beloved. I hope that I was able to move the uncommitted, and not just ‘preach to the choir’, as your people say.”
Steve grinned. “Believe me, Angel, you are very persuasive.”
“That is good,” Diana said in satisfaction. “I wish Hal could have heard it.”
“Me, too, but he’ll be able to see the video. It’ll be replayed endlessly.”
“Yes, and we need to get back to patrol once he comes back from Oa.” A shadow crossed Steve’s face. “What troubles you, my darling?”
“Oh, it’s nothing.” Steve kissed her shoulder.
“It is not ‘nothing’ if it troubles you.”
Steve sighed, ducking his head. “It’s petty,” he mumbled.
“We all have our moments of pettiness,” Diana said reasonably.
He sighed again. “I’m jealous.”
“Jealous?” Diana cupped his chin and forced him to look at her. “Beloved, surely you know that I love you with all my heart.”
Steve kissed her fingers. “Of course I do. I’m not jealous of Hal being with us, but of you and him as heroes while I’m on the sidelines.”
Diana looked solemnly at her lover. “Steve, you are the glue that holds Hal and I together.”
“Angel…”
She released his chin and held up her hand. “Listen carefully to me, my darling. You brought us together with your loving heart. Without you, our hearts do not soar as high.”
Steve blushed. “I’m not sure of that, Angel.”
“I am.” She pulled him down to kiss her. “Remember this always, my darling.”
He would.
Steve and Diana returned to the steps of the Lincoln Memorial long after the crowd had gone and clean-up had been performed. Once again the Mall was pristine, the marble of the Memorial gleaming in the early morning sun.
“Yesterday was a sea of humanity,” Diana murmured, her hand in Steve’s. They were both dressed as tourists in shorts and T-shirts, Diana wearing sunglasses under her big, straw hat and her hair was tied back with a yellow ribbon.
They were alone at the Memorial, no one else around at this hour of the morning. The water in the Reflecting Pool sparkled even brighter than yesterday.
They turned and walked up to the top of the stairs, the great statue of Abraham Lincoln looming up before them. They gazed at the statue in respectful silence, reading the words engraved in marble
“These words were spoken when I had reached full womanhood,” Diana murmured. “I had won the contest to come to America as our Amazon representative.”
Steve squeezed her hand. “You would have been a great champion, Angel. You are now, you know.”
Diana smiled wanly. “Beloved…”
“You are making a difference.”
“I hope so, with all my heart.”
He gently kissed her. “You are.”
They remained in the fairly cool interior, their footsteps echoing in the chamber.
Diana smiled. “It is of interest to me that so many of your country’s buildings and monuments are Greek-inspired.”
“The Founding Fathers were all classically-educated.”
“Yes, Mother was quite impressed when we studied your leaders.”
Steve smiled wanly and she kissed his cheek to silently reassure him that the actions of his ancestors did not reflect on him in her eyes.
Hal has his guilt, too, but seems better able to put it aside. My men are similar in many ways. Both love flying and both are courageous at heart, but Steve takes things more to heart. Though I suppose Hal just hides his insecurities and guilt better.
She and Steve took one final look at the Lincoln statue and went down the steps, strolling by the Reflecting Pool. The heat was still oppressive, Diana wishing for a cool breeze. She could hear rumbling on the horizon.
“Angel?”
“Hmm?”
“You seem far away.”
“Oh, I…” She frowned. “I feel as if danger is on the horizon.”
Steve listened respectfully. He trusted Diana’s instincts. They were nearly unerring when it came to the mystical. He was not sure if it was an Amazon thing, or if Diana simply had a gift even beyond her remarkable sisters.
Diana’s frown increased. “I feel as if something dark is on the horizon, like a storm with all the requisite thunder and lightning.”
Uneasy, Steve sighed. “Do you think it’s something cosmic?” He thought of Hal, who had performed admirably so far here on Earth fighting crime and helping people in natural disasters, but Steve knew that the Green Lantern Corps was an interstellar law enforcement organization. What if war came? The Ring gave Hal incredible power, but Steve could not help but be worried.
“Beloved?”
“Hmmm?”
“Now who is preoccupied?” Diana asked in gentle amusement.
“Oh, sorry, Angel.”
“What troubles you, my love?”
Steve bit his lip. “Hal.” He hastily added, “I’m worried about him.”
“He is safe on Oa.”
“But if this darkness you sense is intergalactic, Hal could be caught up in the middle.”
“This is true, but he was well-trained as a Green Lantern.”
“But he’s still new.”
Diana cupped Steve’s cheek, with a fond smile. “Your caring is one of the things I love most about you.”
He blushed but smiled as he said, “It’s a part of my charm.”
She laughed, then sobered as she said, “As a Green Lantern, Hal will be in the thick of things, but that is no different from your war service in the past, and he will have better protection.”
Steve sighed. “I know. I guess I just can’t help worrying.”
She kissed him. “Admirable, my darling.” She slipped an arm around his waist. “Your work in Military Intelligence is a boon to us.”
“I’m definitely getting more plum assignments. General Darnell says that I may be doing an inspection of the Outer Rim soon.”
“Bases?”
He nodded. “I’ll also be connecting with our agents there under the guise of inspections.”
“Ah, dagger-and-cloak.”
He laughed. “That’s cloak-and-dagger, Angel.”
“Ah.”
He pulled her close and kissed her, and they continued walking down the length of the Mall.
A week later, Steve left on his inspection tour with the glow of sexy times in Diana’s bedroom imprinted in his memory and a smile on his face.
