bradygirl_12: (fenway park 1)
Opening Day at Fenway Park! It's an unofficial holiday in the Bay State (and the rest of New England), and the World Series rings were given to the players and other deserving members of the Boston Red Sox.

They also had all four major trophies present: the World Series trophy, the Lombardi trophy, the Stanley Cup, and the NBA trophy. Bobby Orr was escorting the Cup. :)

It'll be the 96th year of baseball at the old ballyard. I'm sure the ownership will have tremendous plans for the 100th anniversary in 2012.

You know, people always want the shiny and new. Get rid of this old park, they say! It's outlived its usefulness! Typical for a society that treats its elderly like burdens instead of assets.

It's one of the reasons I hated the fate of Wayne Manor in Batman Begins. It's not just bricks and mortar but holds the memories and essence of generations. You literally tread the same ramps and sit in the same seats as your parents, grandparents, great-grandparents. You see the same Wall, the same green field, the same skyline (with some changes in the latter). The same old posts are there holding up the roof, and if you get a seat behind one, well... ;)
