Opening Day!

Opening Day at Fenway Park! It's an unofficial holiday in the Bay State (and the rest of New England), and the World Series rings were given to the players and other deserving members of the Boston Red Sox.
They also had all four major trophies present: the World Series trophy, the Lombardi trophy, the Stanley Cup, and the NBA trophy. Bobby Orr was escorting the Cup. :)
It'll be the 96th year of baseball at the old ballyard. I'm sure the ownership will have tremendous plans for the 100th anniversary in 2012.
You know, people always want the shiny and new. Get rid of this old park, they say! It's outlived its usefulness! Typical for a society that treats its elderly like burdens instead of assets.
It's one of the reasons I hated the fate of Wayne Manor in Batman Begins. It's not just bricks and mortar but holds the memories and essence of generations. You literally tread the same ramps and sit in the same seats as your parents, grandparents, great-grandparents. You see the same Wall, the same green field, the same skyline (with some changes in the latter). The same old posts are there holding up the roof, and if you get a seat behind one, well... ;)

Oh, no! I love my Dodgers Stadium! I would hate for them to tear it down only to build one that looks like all the others!

Date: 2008-04-08 09:51 pm (UTC)LOL! I don't blame you, but it's so cool that they had the game in the Coliseum (set an attendance record for baseball) and Red Sox pitcher Tim Wakefield was honored to pitch that game.

Here's a travesty: they're tearing down Yankee Stadium! I'm a Yankee hater (it's required as a Red Sox fan, LOL!) but the stadium holds so much history! And they're going to build a duplicate in the same neighborhood with new luxury boxes because, you know, the Yankees can't compete with their paltry payroll over 200 mil.
I don't think they're preserving the stadium at all, but I could be wrong.

I really hope I'm wrong about the tearing-down, but I don't think so. I'd like to see the stadium become a museum or something.
They've yakked for years around here about tearing down Fenway and building a replica. Big whoop! Why not keep the original as long as it's viable? Thank goodness this ownership is, at least for now.

Probably didn't want the riffraff tramping through the house! ;)
But it's sad that the writers felt they had to bring it full circle from Bruce setting Ra's house afire as if the two were comparable. Ra's and his gang wanted Bruce to lead a gang of killers to destroy Gotham and Bruce needed to get away. The Manor burning was revenge, pure and simple.
