Stanley Cup Finals Games 3,4, & 5 (The Cup Is In The Building!)

Stanley Cup Finals Game 3: Boston Bruins 2, Chicago Blackhawks 1 (2-1) (Monday, June 17, 2013)

Stanley Cup Finals Game 4: Chicago Blackhawks 6, Boston Bruins 5 (OT) (2-2) (Wednesday, June 19, 2013)

Stanley Cup Finals Game 5: Chicago Blackhawks 3, Boston Bruins 1 (Saturday, June 22, 2013) (2-3)

A quick recap of the last three games: in Game 3, the Bruins were dominant and came out with a win in Boston. In Game 4, both teams exploded with scoring and the Bruins lost a heartbreak in overtime. In Game 5, it was evenly matched but in the end, the Blackhawks took the win. Now the Stanley Cup will be in the building (the Boston Garden) but only for Chicago, because if the Blackhawks win, it’s all over. Needless to say, I’m hoping that the Cup is taken to Chicago. ;) Leave it to the Canadians: the guys who travel with the Cup and escort it into the building wear white gloves! ;) It’s the most beautiful trophy in all of sports! :)

The Greatest Hockey Player Of All Time, No. 4, Bobby Orr, will be in the house tonight as well! :)

Game 6: NBC at 8:00 P.M. tonight!

My sister and I reminded each other that today would have been Dad's birthday. Mom's would have been on July 29th. They were both New England sports fans and loved seeing the Patriots successful at the start of this incredible run for our sports teams. I wish they could have seen the Red Sox finally win and the Celtics win again after a long drought. We miss them every day. <:( It's also Jean de Baptiste Day in Montreal! :)

THEY DID IT!!!!!

The Boston Bruins took home the Stanley Cup after 39 years! Whoo hoo! *dances*

The fireworks went off last night after the win. The city of Boston had thousands of people in the streets, and only six arrests for minor disturbances.

The Bruins came out and scored first, then second, then third (Bergeron sliding into the net!) and fourth (empty net goal). They fought hard and they're coming back home to a parade on Saturday, where they will ride the duckboats through the city with that beautiful, gorgeous Cup shining its silver glory.

There is nothing quite like that pure, unalloyed moment in which you know your team has won it all. We've enjoyed 7 championships here in the last 10 years: the Patriots in '01, '02, and '03; the Red Sox in '04 and '07, the Celtics in '08, and now the Bruins. The Bruins won three Game 7s in this playoffs, and were only the third team in history to win a Game 7 ON THE ROAD!

I woke up this morning with a big smile on my face. It's glorious to savor in this championship. Bobby Orr and the Big, Bad Bruins will always be legends in this town, but now there are new legends wearing the black-and-gold. The Bruins wanted to join the 21st century pantheon of winners here in the city, and they did it! They wanted duckboat rides, too. ;)

What a sight to see our 6'9" defenseman lift that Cup over his head, and for Tim Thomas to get the Conn Smythe MVP Trophy and lift the Cup, too.

Weird facts: the last time there was a lunar eclipse was October of 2004, the night the Red Sox won the World Series. Also, the last time a tornado went through Springfield, the Bruins won the Stanley Cup in 1972. *cue Twilight Zone music*

Every major sports team has won a championship in the last ten years. Never been done before!

This team has HAAAAAHT! (translated from New England accent: heart). ;)

Cue up Queen's "We Are The Champions!!!"

The town is gripped by Stanley Cup fever! The Bruins had a FANTASTIC game Monday night, beating the Vancouver Canucks 8-1! One of the Boston players was badly injured and had to be carted off on a stretcher, but Nathan Horton can move his arms and legs but has a severe concussion, and will be out of the playoffs. The guy who gave him the head shot, Aaron Rome, is suspended for the series. Good!

They just scored again! They're up 3-0!

Man, how fantastic would it be for the Stanley Cup to come back to Boston? The Bruins haven't been in the Finals since 1991, and haven't won a Cup since 1972, the days of Bobby Orr and the Big, Bad Bruins.

Bobby is at the Garden tonight, and waved the jersey of Nathan Horton in the pre-game ceremonies.

This is hockey country in the U.S. The 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team was made up mostly of guys from Massachusetts and Minnesota. During the Bobby Orr days, kids played hockey on frozen ponds all over New England (still do) and college hockey gets a lot of attention here.

The Stanley Cup is the most beautiful of all the trophies. It gets its own white-gloved escort when the NHL brings it to the building with the potential clinching game. :)

If the Bruins pull this off, every major Boston sports team will have won a championship in the 21st century!

Good times, good times. ;)

Today is the 40th anniversary of Bobby's Orr's flying-through-the-air goal to win the Stanley Cup! Woot! Two years later, the Boston Bruins would do it again!

Today a statue was dedicated outside the Boston Garden of that iconic moment. Very cool! :)

Bizzy day today! Exhausted!

Opening Day at Fenway Park! It's an unofficial holiday in the Bay State (and the rest of New England), and the World Series rings were given to the players and other deserving members of the Boston Red Sox.

They also had all four major trophies present: the World Series trophy, the Lombardi trophy, the Stanley Cup, and the NBA trophy. Bobby Orr was escorting the Cup. :)

It'll be the 96th year of baseball at the old ballyard. I'm sure the ownership will have tremendous plans for the 100th anniversary in 2012.

You know, people always want the shiny and new. Get rid of this old park, they say! It's outlived its usefulness! Typical for a society that treats its elderly like burdens instead of assets.

It's one of the reasons I hated the fate of Wayne Manor in Batman Begins. It's not just bricks and mortar but holds the memories and essence of generations. You literally tread the same ramps and sit in the same seats as your parents, grandparents, great-grandparents. You see the same Wall, the same green field, the same skyline (with some changes in the latter). The same old posts are there holding up the roof, and if you get a seat behind one, well... ;)

Yay, "Miracle" is on tonight! It's the movie that tells the tale of the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team who beat the Russians on their way to a gold medal.

That team has special significance around here, as most of us are hockey nuts. Unfortunately, our pro team, the Boston Bruins, haven't been successful since hockey's greatest star, Bobby Orr, and the Big, Bad Bruins graced the ice at the old Boston Garden.

Many guys who grew up around here and were local names from the colleges were on that history-making team. Mike Eruzione and Jim Craig are still recognizable names in this land of ice and snow and 20-degree temperatures (today's temp). :)

Still, college hockey is big here, and kids play hockey as peewees or out on the frozen New England ponds.

Back in 1980, the majority of the U.S. amateur hockey players (no pros allowed back then) came from Massachusetts and Minnesota, and I believe that's pretty much the way it is today. Except, unfortunately, amateurs are out and pros are in now. Pity poor Jim Thorpe didn't become an Olympic star generations later. He could have kept his gold medals.

The movie does a good job of telling the tale and capturing the feel of the times. No Internet, no cellphones, no nothin'! So the team wasn't aware of the impact they'd made, at least not right away. This game's significance was pretty big in the Cold War times, with the Russians' reputation of being unbeatable and the Iran hostage crisis still in full swing.

I wonder if a world of instant communication is always a good thing.

Anyway, if you're interested, the movie is on ABC tonight at 8:00. :)
