Well, I logged on later this evening and discovered that all my fiction on LJ had its font increased to such a size that it annoyingly goes off the side of the page! I don't know if it's a glitch or if it's the LJ upgrade. Have you ever noticed with computers you spend more time going back and doing things over and over? Urgh! Anyway, I decided to change the font on a few fics but wait and see if things return back to normal. If it doesn't (and I'm not holding my breath) I'll have to go in and change the fonts story-by-story, so it'll take awhile. Right now all the previously posted fics are going to look a little funny until I can fix them. Since I have a torrent of fics, that might take awhile. :) It's my own fault, really. I should have used a smaller font to begin with for the fiction. *shrug* Oh, well, live and learn. Not earthshattering but an annoyance. One of life's little ones. :)

Your posts to your *journal* have been like that since the beginning, especially your fic posts, but I thought it was my browser, since I'm on a mac using safari.

LJ automatically has a default font size that gets used when you make a post. If you are using HTML, you should *not* use a font size or font type/face tag unless you want something different from the default (and the default is best). You can use other tags, and the font color tag, but it's best not to indicate anything else.

If you are converting text using MSWord and saving it as HTML, for instance, you have to get rid of all the header goop that the program automatically sticks at the top -- which includes the text tags. You also have to remove it from anywhere else. You also have to get rid of all the paragragh tags which mess everything up.

I find it easiest when I write to simply write in a word processor. When I bold or itallicize text, I put it in tag brackets right there, then I copy the part I want into a journal posting interface. Basically, all you really need is those two tags, and you really don't need to use an html conversion process (or any other tags at all).

Good luck.
