• I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can satisfy my curiosity
• Update your journal with the answers to the questions
• Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions
(Any asking of questions is totally optional!)
1. What draws you to Steve/Diana?
I love the ‘Love At First Sight’ thing they’ve got going on. :) In Diana’s first origin, when Steve first opened his eyes after regaining consciousness after the plane crash and saw his Angel for the first time, it was love at first sight for the both of them. :)
I also like the ‘Us Against The World’ theme. People wonder why Steve would want to be involved with a woman infinitely stronger than he is (and by the nature of her having the powers, he’s going to get rescued by her more often), and in Diana’s case, her mother and sisters look askance at her loving a man.
I love their romance! :)
2. What is your favorite thing Diana?
I like her serenity and confidence. Whether she is preaching love or girding for war, she is confident in her course of action. It doesn’t mean she never has doubts, but she has that Earth Mother serenity that underlies her passions.
3. What is your favorite thing about nature?
Trees! :)
I am an unabashed tree-hugger. They are my Focus. I love the way they shelter us with shade and keep this world going with their environmental benefits, and love the way they turn colors in the fall or sparkle with ice in the winter. Even though they can be a lot of work raking their fallen leaves, I love my trees. I cry when they're cut down. I am infuriated by people who cut down trees for cavalier reasons instead of for safety or age issues. Some of these trees have been around for hundreds of years, and you just cut them down in minutes? *outraged*
4. What is your favorite thing about writing?
My favorite thing is taking what’s going on in my head and putting it down on paper or on the computer screen. It thrills me when my vision connects with someone else, or when my writing engages people’s passions or simply gives them joy. I love to world-build, too, in AUs, though all fanfiction is pretty much world-building, just with some shortcuts because people already know many of the characters, though everyone sees them differently. I love to have finished something and feel that sense of accomplishment, but the writing process is a joy (most of the time, LOL), too. It’s like it’s my own little world before I see it toddle off into the bigger world out there to experience its joys and sorrows. :)
5. What is your favorite thing about Public Enemies?
You mean besides Christian Bale and Johnny Depp? ;) Actually, they are a big part of it. Their main scene together was so sizzling-hot that it inspired a slash fandom for them all on their own! ;) And I was attracted to the story of John Dillinger with its dash and style, having always had an interest in it. I also learned a lot about Melvin Purvis, Hoover’s No. 1 G-Man, who relentlessly pursued Dillinger but ended up questioning the Bureau’s methods.
I loved the way the details of the film got you immersed in the period: the clothes, cars, music…it all came together and gave you a sense of the times, which in the throes of the Great Depression, John Dillinger was a folk hero for hitting back at the banks that many people blamed for their loss of money and homes. People were losing farms that had been in the family for generations, and the soup lines were long. Even though I knew how the movie had to end, the final scenes were especially powerful.

Also, Resistance is Futile. ;)

Date: 2009-11-24 02:24 pm (UTC)I'm a water-baby more than a tree-hugger, but I definitely agree with you here. Nature builds and grows things over anythings from decades to millenia, and the humans rush by and wipe them out in moments. It's maddening!
Oh. And Resistance Is Futile.
