*restless*

Restless tonight. All kinds of story thoughts whirring around in my head. I'll need to meditate before I go to bed or won't get to sleep for a long time.
WHY do I always fall hard for the teeny-tiny fandoms? Shutter Island will be microscopic, I KNOW, and yet I've already written a long story in my head (crossing over with Public Enemies), another small fandom. *sighs*
Why can't I be part of a BIG fandom? Okay, my first fandom was TOS and my first slash fandom was K/S, but damnit, I keep falling for the ones in which I have to scour for fic. If I hadn't started
guns_fedoras, I'd still be beating the bushes for PE fic!
WHY must I always fall for sexy men in fedoras? ;)

But it's so damned frustrating! You want people to see what you see and love what you love, but of course it doesn't work that way. I've never been big on pushing my OTPs and fandoms because I dislike people who enter 'ship wars and try to declare their OTP/fandom the only one.
Lurkers must really be frustrating in a tiny fandom! :)
But.. guys in fedoras. LOL (My fandom is set in the early 40's)
Mmm, I'm lucky that my fedora fandoms (heh heh) have some incredibly sexy guys and gals. :)

Date: 2010-03-06 06:14 am (UTC)I've found some small fandom communities, but I still feel like I'm talking to myself. LOL
Lurkers are very frustrating. there are over 200 people on the main mailing list, we're doing a series rewatch at the moment and all of 3 people are commenting. Maybe once a week. LOL *sigh*
So does mine. LOL There's also sexy Jeffy in a tux. And Hilary in anything she wears... *sigh*

Date: 2010-03-06 06:35 am (UTC)Nope. They own the show. No one knows why. There's a DVD company that has been talking to them for years to release it, but to no avail. Could be a regime change and the new regime wants nothing to do with it. Going theory is that they've lost or destroyed the Masters and don't want to admit to it.
Creator of the show has basically told us to bootleg at will, of course with the caveat that if we ever get an official release we'd all buy them immediately, which of course we would.
But then it could be that they've told everyone that Mad Men is their First original production. (Not that I am bitter. LOL)

That wouldn't surprise me! Though it's not on the same scale as NASA taping over the first moon landing (wtf!), it's ridiculous in this day and age to lose or destroy the masters of a show.

Very generous of him! :)

Oh, that does sound tiny! And people tend to shy away from brother/brother, though Wincest changed a lot of that. Though other shows did feature brother/brother: Simon & Simon was a show that generated a LOT of slash zines back in the '80s and '90s.

I'm still caught up in Supernatural myself. Currently writing a fic crossing over lots of different fandoms and putting in a few OCs that I've made up. I'm in the process of making profiles for them on InsaneJournal.
That sounds like fun and very creative! :)
I hope you post your story! Can't wait to read it!
Thank you! *beams*
It's in the idea stage right now but I do intend to write it when I get some other stuff off my plate first. :)
I can't NOT write it! The Muses are too insistent! :)

Date: 2010-03-06 06:09 am (UTC)I know how that goes. I have all this stuff going on in my head though. It's hard to separate it all out. That's why I'm making profiles for my characters-even the ones from my fandom. I just need to connect with them and see how my view of them plays in as well. But all my muses are vying for my attention. Especially my Dean!Muse and my Jason!Muse. I'm like jeebus, guys! I'll get to ya!

It's frustrating yet exhilirating. I prefer too much on my plate to too little as in writer's block! :)

I also love 'rare slash.' Finding an interesting source and crossing characters over is part of the joy of fandom. Go for it!

Someday I will see that movie! :)

You should totally draw something! It's your chance to draw Christian in a fedora! ;)

It certainly helps stimulate the Muses! I'm glad DC isn't mega-huge but big enough for LOTS of stories. :)

Date: 2010-03-06 04:19 pm (UTC)They filmed part of PE in a town near my hometown and some of my relatives went and met JD there, so I kind of got interested in PE because of that.
I've been bookmarking all your PE related fics to read when I have time because I love your writing. I'm sure I'll do the same with Shutter Island too if you write anything in that fandom! Hopefully one day I'll find the time to catch up on my reading and I can finally leave a decent comment.

Were I a more prolific writer I'd do something about that, but alas I'm not :-/

Date: 2010-03-08 06:52 pm (UTC)It can be so frustrating! Small fandoms can be fun, but then you're faced with a dearth of fic and such, though I've been blessed with Public Enemies fandom being pretty creative. I'd love to see more fic written, but maybe my stuff will be inspirational. :)

True! It's helped that I can put my own work out there, and hopefully someone likes it. :)

Date: 2010-03-10 04:48 am (UTC)In smaller fandoms, I've often found that fans are more dedicated to producing good fics. That's a generalization, of course, but the amount of crap in larger fandoms can be a big turn-off.

Date: 2010-03-10 05:15 pm (UTC)The big fandoms can be intimidating. You certainly can't keep up with everything! It was worse in the days before the 'Net when you had to shell out money for zines! ;)

Very true! The only problem with the smaller fandoms is while you get quality, you might get very few fics, and when you've got a craving, it's frustrating.

Date: 2010-03-15 04:08 am (UTC)That being said, I completely know where you're coming from with regard to falling for itsy bitsy fandoms. There are a couple of things I am extremely fannish about that have very, very little - if any - fic, and it's extremely frustrating. There's nothing to satisfy that craving, and if you do want to write something yourself, and are capable of doing so, there's no readership for it.

I'm very lucky I saw SH on the big screen! It's gone from the theaters now. Pretty good run, considering it debuted on Christmas Day.
I can highly recommend the other films. If you like period pieces, you'll probably like these. There's violence in PE, but it's a gangster flick, so no surprise there. :) Beautiful sets and costumes, and a compelling story. There is a scene between Johnny Depp's and Christian Bale's characters that just sizzles!
Shutter Island is a psychological thriller and can be very intense with some disturbing imagery, but I'd still recommend it. The atmosphere of the film is riveting.

Frustration abounds! :)
And even in a pretty big fandom like DC, sometimes you 'ship a pair that isn't one of the most popular. So you try and get what you can! :)
