Restless tonight. All kinds of story thoughts whirring around in my head. I'll need to meditate before I go to bed or won't get to sleep for a long time.

WHY do I always fall hard for the teeny-tiny fandoms? Shutter Island will be microscopic, I KNOW, and yet I've already written a long story in my head (crossing over with Public Enemies), another small fandom. *sighs*

Why can't I be part of a BIG fandom? Okay, my first fandom was TOS and my first slash fandom was K/S, but damnit, I keep falling for the ones in which I have to scour for fic. If I hadn't started [livejournal.com profile] guns_fedoras, I'd still be beating the bushes for PE fic!

WHY must I always fall for sexy men in fedoras? ;)

Welcome to my world. :( My fandom is tiny.. and even in that tiny scale, its a fandom of lurkers. And maybe 3 or 4 people who might write fic. Especially my OTP, which wasn't popular when the series was on the air in the late 90's.

But.. guys in fedoras. LOL (My fandom is set in the early 40's)

It is frustrating. In our case its also very annoying because Remember WENN is not out on DVD and will likely never get an official release because AMC refuses to acknowledge the series exists at this point. *sigh*

I've found some small fandom communities, but I still feel like I'm talking to myself. LOL

Lurkers are very frustrating. there are over 200 people on the main mailing list, we're doing a series rewatch at the moment and all of 3 people are commenting. Maybe once a week. LOL *sigh*

So does mine. LOL There's also sexy Jeffy in a tux. And Hilary in anything she wears... *sigh*

Why is that? Copyright problems?

Nope. They own the show. No one knows why. There's a DVD company that has been talking to them for years to release it, but to no avail. Could be a regime change and the new regime wants nothing to do with it. Going theory is that they've lost or destroyed the Masters and don't want to admit to it.

Creator of the show has basically told us to bootleg at will, of course with the caveat that if we ever get an official release we'd all buy them immediately, which of course we would.

But then it could be that they've told everyone that Mad Men is their First original production. (Not that I am bitter. LOL)

Me in my Lancer fandom; talk about a misfit among misfits. I'm part of a Yahoo group of 28 people, and I'm the only one who writes brother on brother. It's ridiculous.

But typical.

That sounds like an amazing crossover story though. I like Public Enemies. :) I'm still caught up in Supernatural myself. Currently writing a fic crossing over lots of different fandoms and putting in a few OCs that I've made up. I'm in the process of making profiles for them on InsaneJournal.

I hope you post your story! Can't wait to read it!

I can't NOT write it! The Muses are too insistent! :)

I know how that goes. I have all this stuff going on in my head though. It's hard to separate it all out. That's why I'm making profiles for my characters-even the ones from my fandom. I just need to connect with them and see how my view of them plays in as well. But all my muses are vying for my attention. Especially my Dean!Muse and my Jason!Muse. I'm like jeebus, guys! I'll get to ya!

WHY must I always fall for sexy men in fedoras?

(*giggles*) ...because they're sexy men in fedoras. I think it's really very self-explanatory. lol!

Totally makes me want to go and watch The Untouchables again.

You know, I like small fandoms. They can be a lot of fun!

WHY must I always fall for sexy men in fedoras?

Who can resist them??? (smile)

Keep on enjoying your fandoms. It's all good by me!

(hugs)

I like small fandoms. When I was part of the Dark Knight fandom, it was exhausting. Huge and out of control.

I had more fun with The Prestige, frankly.

I also love 'rare slash.' Finding an interesting source and crossing characters over is part of the joy of fandom. Go for it!

Because fedoras are pure sex.

I was thinking of starting a 1930s gangster roleplay game but I think I'd be the only player. :-(

Nah. I tried setting up a roleplay comm nearly three years ago now but there were no takers. I've come to terms with it. ;-)

Because they are sexy men and fedoras? Come on the fedoras alone are drool worthy. (does not have a thing for fedoras, so totally not have a thing for them, nope not me "smiles")

Any way I hope you were able to settle the bunnies and get to sleep.

But I like PE too, even though I've never drawn any fanart! :)
I like being in big fandom. It seems like I can get more and more ideas for my own story from reading other people's story.

Small fandoms are interesting - I don't care so much about the main canon as I do about reading how writers slash things - that's what draws me in. And if I don't know the show, I just treat the fanfics as original fics.

They filmed part of PE in a town near my hometown and some of my relatives went and met JD there, so I kind of got interested in PE because of that.

I've been bookmarking all your PE related fics to read when I have time because I love your writing. I'm sure I'll do the same with Shutter Island too if you write anything in that fandom! Hopefully one day I'll find the time to catch up on my reading and I can finally leave a decent comment.

;) My problem is big pairings within fandoms. The minute everyone else falls for it, I lose interest. Not on purpose! I just ... do. It's an odd and frustrating thing.

And guys in fedoras are sexy. ;)

I know what you mean about small fandoms--I'm still dismayed that Sky Captain fandom is pretty much gone. It started off strong, with some fantastic stories, and six months later was more or less DOA.

And there's been fandoms where no one else goes for a certain pairing, or some in which I'm only in the mood for gen but can't find much that isn't either het or slash.

Were I a more prolific writer I'd do something about that, but alas I'm not :-/

I'm a fan of a lot of fandoms and I often prefer the smaller ones. There's less fics and discussions but it's easier to keep track of them. I gave up on huge fandoms like Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter except for specific authors and story searches because it was just impossible to feel like I was really a part of it.

In smaller fandoms, I've often found that fans are more dedicated to producing good fics. That's a generalization, of course, but the amount of crap in larger fandoms can be a big turn-off.

Okay, so I have yet to see both Shutter Island and Public Enemies. The last movie I saw in theatres was Sherlock Holmes, which I adored and have had on pre-order from Amazon since it showed up there. *pauses to bask in the Holmes/Watson homoeroticism*

That being said, I completely know where you're coming from with regard to falling for itsy bitsy fandoms. There are a couple of things I am extremely fannish about that have very, very little - if any - fic, and it's extremely frustrating. There's nothing to satisfy that craving, and if you do want to write something yourself, and are capable of doing so, there's no readership for it.

*stamps feet in childish frustration and points to very pointed icon*
