Retro TV!

Ah, fandom! :)

I was clicking around the channels last week because of a hellacious headache I had and didn't want to sit in front of the computer, just watch TV, and found the 1970s TV show, Emergency! on the Retro TV channel (is that channel made for me or what?).



I've always had a fondness for that show and haven't seen it in years. It's nice to watch a medical drama that doesn't have blood splattered all over the walls, y'know? ;) Also, the nurses had honest-to-goodness caps! As a little girl, I loved nurses' uniforms and caps! There were so many different kinds! When I was in the hospital it was very cool to see the real thing. :) I know that what nurses wear today is way more comfortable, but I still miss caps. *sighs*

Anyway, it was fun to watch some of the old episodes and I wonder how many people were inspired to become paramedics by this show?

Oh, and there was Johnny and Roy as a very cute couple! ;) All the other firefighters of Station 51 didn't exactly crack mirrors, either. ;)

Yeah, it wasn't exactly Rescue Me, but sometimes it's nice to see firefighters who aren't drunks or using four-letter words every other word. Yeah, I know, not 'realistic', but I get enough realism in RL!

I got a plot bunny and might just write some Emergency! fic! LOL!

I love me some Rescue Me and being from a fire-fighting family I know that RM is pretty close to accurate as far as ---erm---pithiness is concerned, but I know what you mean. I also know in the 60's and 70's it was not so earthy as it is now and it's nice to dwell in that world for a while. I also love the innate slashiness of the show...lovely!

I would LOVE to see you write Emergency! fic :)

We will not be up to MI for MediaWest---I have a new job (after being unemployed for a while) and I cannot get the time off, more's the pity. I'll be thinking of my feathery little bud, though...I would love to hang out again! Maybe next year! (I say feathery because I recall you wearing feathers in some form around your head...is that right?)

Yeah, I know that shows back then couldn't show the 'real story' in a lot of ways, but sometimes I get tired of blood, gore, etc., etc. :)

I bought the first season of Emergency after reading a bunch of fanfic -- I hadn't see the series in YEARS but it wasn't something I remember a lot about though.

If you want some classic 70's and 80's fic, check out:

Also, if you have any desire, there is a really good Kel Brackett/John Gage fic (actually more than one) that I can either send you the doc of or try and scrounge up a URL for.

And YES! there is a LOT of BAD E! fic out there. If I hadn't found the stories I *do* have that I like, I would have left it REALLY quick!!

It was a fun show! They had a nice mix of humor, drama, firefighting, and hospital storylines.

And there was always the Phantom! ;)
