(Pre-season) Week 2: New England Patriots 25, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 21 (2-0) (Friday, August 16, 2013)
Patriots' Nation held its collective breath last Wednesday when Tom was injured in practice. It was the same knee he had shredded in 2008. Luckily he's fine and looking sharper than ever with his new receivers. :) I'm sure you've heard about it by now. Even if you're not a football fan, it was probably on every news website last week. Vegas suspended betting on the division title, AFC Championship Game, and the Super Bowl until they got word that Tom was okay. You can see the video on YouTube by just searching 'Tom Brady--Injury'. Look for the training camp video, not the one of him getting injured in Kansas City in 2008.
Danny Amendola looks good as the top wide receiver, but can he stay healthy? That is the big question with him. I did hear that Wes Welker sprained his ankle in his game last night. The offense looked good and the defense looked better than last week, Chandler Jones causing havoc in the backfield.
Second-string QB Ryan Mallett looked a lot better than he did last week. Third-stringer Tim Tebow was awful. He threw for minus-one yards. Yep, you read that right. MINUS-ONE!!! He was just terrible, though he gained some yards with his legs. Unfortunately for him, the NFL requires its quarterbacks to pass and to be accurate! I wouldn't be surprised if Timmy got cut before the season.
All-in-all, not bad, though pre-season can be deceiving. Teams that light it up in pre-season can struggle mightily in the regular season, and vice versa. Still, better to look good than not. :)
Ex-Patriot Randy Moss was a commentator on the Fox broadcast. He wasn't great but he wasn't awful, either. He might make a go of this new gig.
A-Fraud, A-Rat, take your pick, was booed mightily at Fenway the past two games and will be again tonight. What a weasel, throwing other guys (even a former friend and teammate!) under the bus!

Date: 2013-08-18 06:16 pm (UTC)At least we did some Peyton Manning to Wes Welker action this time and that looks like something that will be a treat to watch. Still weird, though, seeing Welker in a Broncos uniform. Kind of: Yay that the Broncos snagged him when the opportunity arose, but at the same how bizarre that the Patriots even let that happen.

I heard about Dustin Keller's shredded knee: torn ACL, PCL, and MCL, and the knee was dislocated. The doctors fear that there's nerve damage and his career could be over.

Date: 2013-08-19 02:15 am (UTC)If Tebow is going to be useful to the Patriots, it's not at the QB position. I heard he has a zero QB rating! He needs to realize that he's not QB material and the Patriots, should they keep him, should try to make him a running back or a tight end or something.

Tim will end in the CFL, I think. Doug Flutie was a star there for years though in his case, he actually made it as an NFL quarterback later in his career. Tebow is AWFUL!!! It's embarrassing to watch.
