(Pre-season) Week 3: Detroit Lions 40, New England Patriots 9 (2-1) (Friday, August 22, 2013)

Ha, good thing that pre-season scores don't mean that much because the crisp, efficient team we've seen the past few weeks got waxed big-time last night by the Detroit Lions. Oh, well, they got battered by the Lions two years ago in pre-season and that was the year the Pats went to the Super Bowl, so I'm not too worried. ;)

The offense couldn't get into a rhythm because the rookies finally played like rooks and kept turning the ball over. FOUR TIMES in the first half they coughed it up! When you do that, your goose is cooked.

Tom was frustrated, of course, and I'm sure he'll be a bear all week in practice. He spoke at his alma mater, the University of Michigan, and it was a nice little pep talk. I'm sure he wished he could have gotten the pep going on his team last night! ;)

The defense held the Lions to 16 points in the first half but the wheels came off in the second half when most of the starters came out, including Brady. Ryan Mallett actually looked pretty good so he's showing improvement. Tim Tebow, thankfully, never saw the field.

Kenbrell Thompkins still looks like a sharp receiver and Zach Sudfeld committed the first turnover so he was in the doghouse for awhile. Next week it's not certain any starters will play.

Tom made a fashion statement by wearing a light-gray cardigan sweater to the stadium. Very retro, very sleek! :)

:D

I have to say I'm pretty impressed by the Lions, xD It is a win-win for me no matter who comes out ahead in Pats v. Lions games though! :3

The Lions looked sharp as hell in the pre-season so hopefully they've got their act together enough to carry that kind of amazingness through the season. (Whatever, I'm a Lions fan, hometown pride. :D)

It's pretty non-telling though. The Patriots didn't have their Wes Welker replacement on the field but Megatron wasn't in the game either. It'll be interesting to see the scores they put up when they're playing for real.

Obvs in the pre-season doesn't matter as much, but I do think the Lions are going to fall victim to their biggest weakness, which is the amount of penalties they tend to rack up in a game. (The announcer said they'd had over five in all of their pre-season games so far!)

Excited for this seasons of football though!

Have no fear, hon, as a MoTown gal I can honestly tell you that our dear pussy cats are only good for PRE season football. After that, they fall apart like a paper gown in the rain. Yet we poor bastards still keep hoping. Sigh.

The Patriots going 16-0 was amazing! But I was referring to the Lions' 0-16 perfect season. xD :D
