Is it me, or has the Oscar buzz been muted this year? I nearly forgot the show was tonight.

I guess after the Academy failed to give Christian Bale a nomination for Best Actor and completely ignored Wonder Woman even in categories superhero movies get (Best Costumes, Best Cinematography, Best Score, etc.), I lost interest. I haven't seen any of the nominated movies, the first time that's happened in years.

I'm watching it now, but only for their special tributes, etc. I haven't seen any of the movies nominated either. The buzz *has* been muted - living in LA I know a lot of it is because Hollywood is being very cautious right now because so many male Hollywood figures have been caught in harassing behaviour.

Well, that would do it! And I'm sure the revelations so far are only the tip of the iceberg.

Loved seeing Gal Gadot and the Star Wars trio, though the latter's scripted dialogue was awkward as hell.

I almost missed it too. Aw no Wonder Woman was ignored? It was such a good film!

Yeah, superhero films get no love from the Academy. >:(

I'm the opposite this year. I haven't seen more than two movies a year in close to two decades, but I've seen three of the best picture noms plus a few others. Call Me By Your Name is one of the best films I've ever seen. Weeks later I'm still thinking about it and will probably see it again next week at the local art film theater.

The Shape of Water is wild and I'm stunned it won. It's worth seeing in the Small Arthouse way. It's not the typical Oscar best picture!

The Big Sick is worth seeing, too. I come from an Asian culture, so I found it fascinating, but my non-Asian husband found it quite good as well.
