Tim Wakefield, who was my favorite player on the World Series-winning Boston Red Sox teams, passed away from cancer. He was an extremely successful knuckleball pitcher, which is a rarity with that screwy pitch. It was especialy impressive playing Fenway Park, a little bandbox! He was popular with his teammates and the fans.
He was an even better human being, working within rhe community and having many friends. A sad loss.
The New England sports community also lost Russ Francis, who played tight end for the Patriots in the '70s and '80s. He was very talented and also known as a nice guy, also popular with his teammates and fans.
Heaven is having a run on good guys. 🥺
