Memories of November 22, 1963
Nov. 22nd, 2010 05:40 pmThere is a good article here with memories of November 22, 1963, by Walter Shapiro, Senior Correspondent for Politics Daily. There are other reminiscences in the comments, too.
Title: The New Frontier II: Yankee Pot Roast (1/1)
Author: BradyGirl_12
Pairings/Characters: Bruce, Clark, Diana (Gen, with a tiny hint of slash)
Continuity: The New Frontier (Comicsverse)
Series Notes: Well, it’s no secret that I absolutely love Darwyn Cooke’s The New Frontier! As I read it I got all sorts of ideas, and will collect them under the umbrella title, "The New Frontier". Stories could range from slash to (gasp!) gen and het. :) I’d like to focus on many different characters within the framework of The New Frontier universe, or use it as a jumping-off point. All stories can be found here.
Genre: Slice-Of-Life
Rating: G
Warnings: None
Spoilers: None
Summary: The Trinity meets for lunch.
Date Of Completion: June 7, 2010
Date Of Posting: June 10, 2010
Disclaimer: I don’t own ‘em, DC does, more’s the pity.
Word Count: 1640
Feedback welcome and appreciated.
Author’s Note: Happy Birthday,
starsandsea! :) Pairing/Threesome: The Trinity! Prompt: Ooooh! Um... Maybe the Trinity just hanging out and relaxing? Not quite as relaxing as you might have envisioned, but they’re having a good time! Hope you like it! :)
( Clark and Bruce stood, Diana shaking their hands firmly. Clark knew that she hadn’t held back with him, but had been very careful with Bruce. Human bones were so easily broken. )

Title: European (Riviera) Triptych II: Yankee Doodle Dandies (Triptych Series I) (1/1)
Author: BradyGirl_12
Pairings/Characters: Genevieve St. Clair (OC Narrator), Annette LeMay, Mel/Johnny/Billie, Jack Kennedy, Kathleen Kennedy, Joe Kennedy, Jr.
Fandom: Public Enemies
Genres: AU, Slice-Of-Life
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: None
Spoilers: Not really, since things ended up quite differently in this particular AU. ;)
Summary: The Excelsior Hotel Regina helps their American guests celebrate the Fourth of July.
Date Of Completion: September 19, 2009
Date Of Posting: November 9, 2009
Disclaimer: I don’t own ‘em, Universal does, more’s the pity.
Word Count: 3318
Feedback welcome and appreciated.
Author’s Notes: I often use canon as a jumping-off point into other possibilities, though there are plenty of canon stories from this fandom coming up on my ‘To Write’ List. ;) Isn’t it great to be in on the start of a new fandom? :) This story, however, is one of those where events branched off from the movie timeline at some point, and there was a happier ending than that of the events at the Biograph Theater in Chicago on the night of July 22, 1934. If John Dillinger had survived that night, or it hadn’t happened at all, it would make sense that he and the ones who loved him couldn’t stay in America. I haven’t gone into details on the hows and whys, and may only hint at them in the next two installments of this trilogy, but I hope you enjoy this little tale of love ‘undercover’. I’d recommend reading the first story in this trilogy, but in case you don’t, Johnny is Jack, Billie is Willa, and Mel is A.J. :)
The entire series can be found here.
( The ballroom was filled with quite a few people. The party was for Americans to celebrate the Fourth of July, but they had also invited non-Yankee guests. )

Senator Kennedy's Journey
Aug. 27th, 2009 05:48 pmThere’s been wall-to-wall coverage on TV about Senator Kennedy, and I’ll give you a rundown of events. I’m still planning to put down some thoughts on the Kennedys and how they’ve affected me and my family over the years, but I’m letting those thoughts coalesce for now. It’s a very emotional time for me, because there’s a lot caught up in all this that I need to sort out.

Ted Kennedy died about twenty minutes ago of brain cancer.
Not surprising news, but sad nonetheless. He's the last surviving brother of JFK and RFK, and sister Eunice died only days ago.
A passion advocate of health care reform and the leading liberal of the Democratic Party, he will be missed.
My dad would tell the story of seeing the Senator in the Melody Tent in Hyannisport during Mass. In those days, there were no Saturday Masses, and the influx of tourists swelled the Sunday morning Masses at St. Francis Xavier, so the Melody Tent was used. My sister and I thought it was the greatest thing to go to Mass in a theatrical tent! :) Mom and Dad liked it, too. The Melody Tent still gives performances on the Cape.
In the summer of '69, Ted Kennedy would attend Mass with Secret Service agents and family, a year after brother Bobby had been murdered, and six years after JFK. A basket was passed around for the offering and the woman in front of him was so flustered she passed the basket back to Ted, who gave it to her, and she passed it back again! My dad could always tell a good story. Must have been the Irish in him. ;)
Whatever people's politics or perceptions, it really is the passing of an era here in the U.S. and in Massachusetts.

Anniversary--D-Day (June 6, 1944)
Jun. 6th, 2008 06:10 pmAnother important anniversary today!
Today is the 64th anniversary of the D-Day invasion of Europe, the opening of the Second Front in World War II.
Since we all enjoy and admire our fictional heroes so much, I thought it would be appropriate to honor our real-life heroes. Many of the men who hit those beaches in the dawn of June 6, 1944, were still in their teens or had parents, wives and children back home. They sacrificed so much (some made the ultimate sacrifice) against true evil.
All the men and women serving (like veteran JFK pictured in my icon) risked a great deal, in that war and every war. Often it's the rich and powerful who orate and get us into wars while the little guy and his loved ones pay the price.
Heroism should always be remembered.

Rating (this chapter): PG-13

Author’s Notes: This story takes place in the early Avengers continuity in the early Sixties. I seem to be stuck in pre-slash mode for Steve and Tony, but right now that’s how they’re speaking to me. Hope you don’t mind! :)
Any mistakes are mine, but this was written with love. It was also started on Presidents’ Day weekend, hence the Presidential theme and setting. :)
Following DC’s lead, JFK knows the Avengers’ secret identities (he knew Superman’s in the special issue published after his death).
Information on Mount Rushmore can be found here.
The entire series can be found here.

Oswald's Ghost
Jan. 14th, 2008 08:21 pmTonight at 9:00 (EST) American Experience on PBS is presenting "Oswald's Ghost", a program about the Kennedy assassination and the cultural effects all these years later (it'll be 45 years this November 22nd). I don't know if it'll be good or not, but the ads on the radio sounded interesting.
