Well, it's no surprise that I loved Johnny in Public Enemies! ;) Suave, smooth, and with a hint of vulnerability underneath the pinstriped suit, he really sold that movie. And his one scene with Christian sizzled so much, it launched a fandom! ;)

I've enjoyed him in all the Pirates Of The Caribbean movies (haven't seen the latest yet) and Alice In Wonderland and he's always been the best! :)

Happy Birthday, Johnny! :)

One bright spot from yesterday: Christian won Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Fighter at the Golden Globes! He gave a nice, amusing speech, too, and looks marvelous with his long hair! :)

Johnny Depp didn't win Best Actor for either Alice In Wonderland or The Tourist, but his two nominations may have split the vote for him.

Melissa Leo won for Best Supporting Actress for The Fighter. She and Christian did outstanding jobs in that movie. I hope both get at least Oscar noms.

Congratulations to my Public Enemies boys, Christian Bale and Johnny Depp, for their Golden Globe nominations! Christian gets his for The Fighter, and Johnny for Alice In Wonderland and The Tourist. Good work, boys! :)

In a movie with many memorable moments, the scenes at the Biograph Theater in Public Enemies were pure gold in acting, direction, and music. )

Author’s Notes: I’m starting a series of essays about all aspects of Public Enemies. Subjects will range from acting, costuming, directing, characterization, fannish interpretations (including slash), and so on. I encourage people to write their own! :) Naturally, these essays are my own opinion and are not any definitive word on the subjects, but you have to start somewhere! :)

So we saw a Mel on-screen who was high-strung, dedicated, and conflicted. )

What’s today? It’s Public Enemies Day! :)

The DVD (also on Blu-Ray) is being released today! And I’m sure Netflix will have it available, too.

I stand by the review (spoilers) I wrote a day after seeing the film, and my recommendations (spoiler-free) which I’ll quote here because they are part of the review entry:

If you’re a Christian Bale fan, you will love him in the clothes. Sorry, he never gets out of them. ;) He has a supporting role so isn’t in the film as often as Johnny Depp, but he was in it more than I expected. The lighting does him justice, and especially highlights his beautiful eyes in certain scenes. Hands are very yummily noticeable, too, not to mention other, um, assets. ;)

If you want to enjoy his beauty, go, but if you don’t like understated performances, perhaps this movie is not for you, Christian fan or not.

The violence wasn’t as bad as I expected. In fact, it wasn’t much worse than you would see on a Law & Order episode. I’d bet that the final scene in the ‘67 flick Bonnie & Clyde was bloodier.

If you love period pieces, this is a good film. If you have no interest, then you probably won’t like it.

If you know about John Dillinger’s story or want to learn more, this is a film that I would recommend.

Also, if you like slash… ;)

And now on to the slash couple that is my favorite (though you can slash more!):

Okay, I’m going to pimp Public Enemies. What, you mean more than normal? ;) But I noticed that it’s in the ‘cheap theater’ around here and thought maybe it might be for others, too. If your ticket’s only 3 bucks or less, it’s worth seeing on the big screen, believe me. I know that people are waiting for the DVD or Netflix and that’s cool. I just think this film is well-suited to the big screen for action and scope.

Yes, I've gone completely 'round the bend! ;)

Hopefully this comm will be more than just me, but what the heck? Gotta create it to see! :)

Hey, I gotta have someplace to put my Public Enemies fic! ;)

[livejournal.com profile] guns_fedoras is for fans of the 2009 film, Public Enemies. We welcome fanfic, fanart, manips, icons, vids, articles, and meta! Creative works can be slash, het, or gen. AUs acceptable: What if John Dillinger had escaped from the Biograph Theater? Do you have a different story to tell about the Little Bohemia Hunting Lodge shoot-out? Prequels, futurefic, all open to your imagination!

Meta/Discussion: What’s your opinion of the cinematography? Acting? Script? What happened to Melvin Purvis after the events of this film? What were the early days of the FBI like? Do you enjoy discussing Depression-era America’s music, cars, and clothes?

Yeah, clothes! :) Want to gush over the beautiful suits that G-Man Melvin Purvis wears or the dashing fedora of Johnny Dillinger, or Billie’s three-dollar red dress?

Then this is the place for you!

Come check us out! :)

Tell your friends! Tell your (public) enemies! ;)

I went to see Public Enemies at a matinee showing, and it was discounted on top of that, so I figured if I didn’t like it, it wouldn’t cost me much. :)

I had heard reviews both good and bad, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I was almost a tabula rasa, trying not to let reviews influence me when I took my seat in the theater.

Review complete with spoilers )

My recommendation whether or not to see this movie (spoiler-free) )

I just created a new comm for the movie, [livejournal.com profile] guns_fedoras. Seeking fic, art, and all kinds of goodies! Come check us out! :)
