This past Memorial Day weekend was the traditional time to attend Media West*Con in Lansing, Michigan. I was once a faithful attendee and still miss it, but a lot of factors combined to make 2011 my last con.

When I first attended in 1993, I had one of the greatest experiences of my life. )

I am never disappointed at the generosity of my friends in fandom. I woke up this morning to the wonderful message that I'd been gifted with an extension of my paid account! THANK YOU, [livejournal.com profile] catalenamara! *dances* One of the things I miss about no longer attending Media West* Con is seeing you in person. We had a lot of good times there. :)

It's a beautiful day.  I finally put out my plants on deck today. We've had warm weather but suddenly the night temps could hover around freezing, so I waited until now to put the plants out.

Ficcish update coming soon! I know you're all breathlessly awaiting it ;)

Hi, luvs! If you'd like to see the door decoration that [livejournal.com profile] khylara and I put up for Media West* Con 31's contest, you can see the fab door here. We won for Best Pop Culture! :)

Okay, I'm signing off and won't be back on (unless I find time later) until next week. Enjoy the place! Rummage through the Challenges, read the fic, have a good time! Bring my counter numbers up! ;)

Any Challenge entries or claims you make will be taken care of when I get back. Same for comments and replies.

A con report will be made when I return! :)

Luv you all!

*hugs*

Well, my Muses have slowed down, but I have been typing and revising chapters of Rainbow’s Freedom, and decided to post three days in a row because it’ll be a week before there’s any more fic from me! :)

Counters, fanfic, and more )

Is anyone going to Media West Con this year?

Here's the website and the programming grid. My three suggestions made it onto the schedule. I think you might be able to guess which three. ;)

My name isn't attached to any panel because I was just a suggester; I didn't sign on as a panelist, and Open Discussions don't have mods, anyway.

Besides, I'm more comfortable in the audience. I'm a shy girl! ;)

You'll get a full report from me when I return. But I'm here for awhile yet. Not leaving until Thursday, May 21st (next week).

Hmm, feeling a little restless tonight. I'm working hard on my deadline fic and am thinking up new Challenges. ;) I also have a fic request idea I've decided I may post later. I'm crazy, I know, with my deadline fic but that's coming along so nicely that I might take the plunge. ;)

Also, the 'Next Fic' poll is coming along with a lot of votes! I'm very pleased to see the quantity of responses! That makes a girl feel good! :)

Is it difficult to create a table? I may just go with a list for my posting. Also, how does one create a line through a word as if crossing it off? What's the code for that?

*sighs* I had a very sad plot bunny for Steve/Diana today. Not sure if I'll write it. Usually these two speak to me in a romantic tongue, but I've put them through the wringer before.

If I listed all my various plot bunnies I'd need two posts! ;)

Speaking of the Princess and the Pilot, I encourage those who have written/drawn/manipped/iconned them to keep them in mind! ;) Also, newbies, too! LOL! I love the quality of the fic, art, and icons that I've seen and am happy that the spirit of this couple has been captured by such talented people! :)

I am feeling energized after the con and am finally starting to catch up on my flist. I did pimp the fandom and LJ at the con so maybe some newbies will pop up. ;)

Eep, enough yakking! Must get back to typing! ;)

I've got two of five reports done. Enjoy! :)

I'm baaaack!!!!

What, you never knew I was gone? ;)

I am back after a very long and tiring day. I have no fic to post, sorry. I will be posting my con report very soon, though! :)

Gaah, my flist is loooong! I picked out what I wanted to read and hope to get through it in the next few days. I also have a lot of e-mails to answer! :)

Hmm, not much else to say. A little loopy. Oh, and I do love my icon. *sighs swoonily* ;)

Hey, flist, have pity on me, and don’t post too much over the weekend, huh? If it’s nice weather, go outside! ;)

Then again, if you come up with a plot bunny or two for my favorite couples, who am I to complain? ;)

Before I left (I should be on for a little while tomorrow during the day as I have to print out my boarding pass) I wanted to write a little about how much this DC LJ community means to me (and a little bit of Marvel, too!). You have been wonderful, giving me my writer’s lifeblood (comments) and even more importantly, there for me when I’ve had rough times in my RL.

It shows in things like the Anonymous Praise Thread, for which I wanted to thank everyone for the wonderful things they said! I really needed that.

That’s why a final thought on Final Crisis: please consider staying even if your favorite characters have been royally screwed by DC. There is a lot of canon to work with, and our creativity can go beyond ‘official’ canon.

I write Wonder Woman/Steve Trevor, and they haven’t been a romantic couple since 1986. Yet why deny myself the pleasure of writing them simply because they aren’t canon? They were once upon a time, but their spirits speaks to me, and that’s why I write them.

The same can be done for the Bat-family, and Bruce in particular. Don’t let your love of the Bat-family or S/B be derailed by anything DC does! They don’t deserve your time or anguish. These are people who don’t care about the characters and just want to go for shock value.

Vote with your pocketbook! If Final Crisis doesn’t suit you, don’t read the titles involved. Read the back issues you haven’t seen, or re-read them, or read special issues unaffected by FC.

We’re luckier than movie-based people (Stars Wars, for example) or fans of a series that only lasted a season or two. They work with limited canon and create reams of stories and oodles of art! :) Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan were onscreen maybe for ½ of one movie and there are literally hundreds of stories out there about them! How lucky are we with 70 years of canon to play with?

This community came together because of a mutual love of DC Comics. We have become a true RL community as well.

Don’t let DC take that away from you!

Just curious: are there any comics fans going to Media West Con this year? I do know of one person, but want to know if there will be any others. There is still time to suggest panel topics (until March 15th) so if you want comics on the schedule, here's your chance! You can find the info here.
