bradygirl_12: (lobster dinner)
Hi, luvs!

Since it's getting closer to summer, I thought I'd post this link to the Boothbay Lobster Wharf. Whenever we were in Boothbay on vacation, my family would always visit this place. It was known as The Lobstermen's Co-Op back then, and they've made a lot of changes since our last visit 13 years ago, but the basics are the same: fresh seafood right off the boat in a harbor setting. :) And if you get a craving for lobster, they ship anywhere! :)

Author’s Note: Happy Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] starsandsea! :)

Steve watched Diana as she circulated through the Washington glitterati. She was garbed in a white satin gown edged in silver with a matching necklace and a sapphire set in the center that complemented her outfit perfectly. She still wore her golden tiara and her bracelets were sheathed in silver. Sparkling glass slippers peeked out from the hem of her gown. )

Hi, luvs! I’m baaaack! Didja miss me? :)

It’s been a crazy week. I’ve been on a rollercoaster of emotions. Today was the last day I went over to the house (more on that later).

Before I go to the cut, I’d like to offer fic to whomever is kind enough to renew my extra userpic packages. I’ve lost so much lately that it would be nice to hang on to my full complement of icons. Thank you! The expiration date is May 14th.

Come join me for Moving Tales )

Hi, lads 'n' lasses!

Well, St. Patrick's Day will be celebrated here all weekend as the actual day is on Monday. Friends of mine will be going to the Big Parade in Southie (South Boston), and there will be the Wearin' O' The Green! for the next three days, oh, yes! I will be wearin' a nice green shirt with some fine buttons celebratin' the day. The house is decorated and the corned beef 'n' cabbage will be ready for feastin'! ;)

Here 'tis an Avengers story done for a St. Paddy's [livejournal.com profile] avengerkink prompt o' mine: Glitches And Hang-Ups In The Process Of Adjustment. Note that Chapter 2: Green Beer, Shamrocks, And Other Gems centers around my prompt (it's a two-chapter story).

Have a great weekend, my friends, and perhaps there will be an Avengers story from yours truly soon! ;)

Hi, luvs!

Very bizzy lately so not much time to post. Some quick thoughts:

I was disappointed that American Hustle got shut out of the Oscars. Okay, Christian wasn't going to win Best Actor because Matthew McC. had that sewn up, but no Supporting Actor or Actress or Amy Adams for Best Actress? Not even Best Costume Design, for crying out loud? I did enjoy seeing Christian during the show, and loved Ellen's pizza bit! ;)

More deep freeze here.

*points up to icon*

I have a larger version as my current wallpaper. Seems to fit with my Bruce/Dick Muses lately. The AU is going well. Over 27,000 words written so far, and halfway done! Though Dick is not killed off in this one, ha ha, he and Bruce do face some danger in between all the romance and other good stuff. I think the icon pleases me because I love it when Bruce expresses his anguish over any hurt to Dick. I love it when Dick angsts over Bruce, but seeing Bruce (especially in canon) losing it when Dick is threatened or he thinks he's been killed (Infinite Crisis) is a definite kink for me. :)

Right now the AU is relaxing me as I write it, and the research is a blast, and the Steve/Diana story I finished is still simmering, waiting for revision, and I'm writing an Avengers tale inspired by an [livejournal.com profile] avengerkink prompt, so that's pretty much it for me fanfic-wise! :)

BTW, the story that icon comes from is a Bronze Age goodie in which Ra's Al-Ghul kidnaps Robin (he knows where to hit the Bat where it hurts!) and Batman swims the deepest ocean and climbs the highest mountain to get to him. Well, he did climb a very high mountain, flew for hours (and he hates long trips!) and fought a snow leopard, I believe, and this pic was on the cover. A great story with lots of Dynamic Duo banter when Batman shows up in the stronghold where Robin's being held. Tied up, of course. ;)

Hi, luvs! Time to update 2014's BradyGirl_12 Challenges! :)

You may have noticed that I didn't host a Winter Holidays Challenge last December or unveil a Valentine's Day Challenge yet. That was due to a bunch of factors: LJ being abandoned by fandom, people leaving DC Comics fandom because of the Reboot, and so on. While my Challenges were always successful in the past, I noticed a downward trend the last few years that helped my decision to cut back on hosting Challenges. I will host a Halloween Challenge later this year, but I really don't know if I will be hosting any others. I'm a little sad about that, because I've been doing this since 2007 and having a lot of fun, but I'm afraid my little Challenges aren't inspiring people quite as much anymore. Like I said, it's due to many factors. I guess Big Bangs are more in fashion! :)

Anyway, we'll see what spring brings (Robins! ;)) and in August, it'll be time to unveil the Halloween Challenge. Beyond that, I really don't know. Like my fanfic writing, I'm bobbin' on the waves here!

If you'd like to enjoy past stories and art, please go to the Fic/Art Challenges Page for links to all of my past Challenges. And you can go to my Profile Page to view all the fabulous banners that [livejournal.com profile] ctbn60 has made for me. There are current banners and links to older banner archives there.

So, I hope to host more in the future (and with [livejournal.com profile] ctbn60's wonderful banners!) but for now, looks like we'll have to eat our Valentine chocolate in private! ;)

It's -6 below zero here (am I living at the North Pole?) so everyone who's in the deep freeze, stay warm 'n' cozy! :)

Hi, luvs! Well, Halloween is over and even though there's a whirl of activity around that holiday with buying candy, trick-or-treating, putting together costumes, decorating the house and going to parties, it does seem as if they holiday rush really starts after the candy corn and Jack O'Lanterns.

So, my holiday list has several check-offs: I've got my cards and addressed them but I need stamps. I bought some presents and stocking stuffers but haven't gotten them all. I need some new tags and bows. I plan on decorating Thanksgiving weekend and putting up the tree with my sister's help. Reservations for Thanksgiving dinner have been made. Oh, and I'm going to see Thor 2: The Dark World tomorrow. Yay! :)

A couple of generations ago Christmas shopping started in earnest the day after Thanksgiving, but now we seem to have Christmas trees and music in stores the day after Labor Day! I buy presents throughout the year and store them away until it's time to wrap them because if I see something I think would be good, I buy it. Most of my shopping takes place in the autumn, though. And purchasing chocolates and fruit and other goodies (oranges in the stocking!) of course takes place close to Christmas.

I enjoy the holiday season. There's extra to do but so what? Life can be so humdrum that it's nice to have special things to do and look forward to. My advice for people who stress out is to organize. Even if you're not ordinarily an organizer, try it for the season. If you can get things done pretty early you can sit back and enjoy the season instead of worrying about running out to an overcrowded mall and getting that last present. Most presents are forgotten in six months or less, anyway. Some can be memorable but when I read stories about people camping out in front of stores and ditching Thanksgiving dinner, I wonder where their priorities are.

Enjoy the holiday! These are precious times. People in 1940 might have taken the season for granted. By 1941, they knew nothing would ever be the same again. Grab your piece of history because the tides of history swirl on inexorably and it's up to us to enjoy what we have when we have it. :)

BTW, a little more info on the JFK special here.
bradygirl_12: (thanksgiving turkey (colorful))
November is Thanksgiving Month, and so the stories feature that delicious holiday:

The First Thanksgiving: Steve explains the first Thanksgiving to Thor and decides that the Avengers ought to celebrate it as a family.

Family III: Competitive Cooking (Or The Year That Alfred Saved Thanksgiving!!! ;)) starts out as a classic disaster as Bruce and Ollie COOK!!!
bradygirl_12: (bat o'lantern 2)
It's Halloween Week!!! *squees*

Man, the energy is just swirling around like the leaves! It's a gorgeous fall day, all golden and orange and crimson, and the weather is just right: cool enough to wear a jacket but not uncomfortable. Crisp air and the bounty of the harvest ready to be enjoyed.

A few weeks ago I went to the local farm stand and bought a baby pumpkin and gourds, all colorful as the leaves were all bright around me. There were giant gourds shaped like swans and other interesting shapes. :) Big pumpkins and little ones. Colorful Indian corn. Mums of red, orange, and yellow!

Houses are decorated on the street, some with autumn themes of cornstalks and scarecrows and pumpkins while others are spooky Halloween themes, complete with grinning Jack O'Lanterns and pumpkin lights! ;) One house has an inflatable Haunted House on their front lawn, LOL!

This is the week I usually see a flurry of submissions for my current Halloween Challenge, and while I may just be whistling past the graveyard this year, I bet something pops up in the trick-or-treat bag! *dances*

I've got a Witch cut-out on my front door and a vampire on the back. Lots of decorations and I have to get my plastic Jack O'Lantern handy and filled with candy! ;)

So get ready, boys and ghouls, for the magic in the air of the Night of Nights and the costumes of the kiddies as they shuffle through the fallen leaves up to the door and yell, "Trick-or-treat!" and the adults party hearty in full costume! :)
bradygirl_12: (lobster dinner)
Well, I submitted my drafts for the final two volumes of my profic trilogy. Whew! There will be a lot of work to do once I get the edits back but right now I'm taking a break. I've already stepped up my social calendar for the week, LOL! I went to see The Butler last night with a friend. Very good movie! I'd recommend it, especially if you're a student of American history and the civil rights movement. There were lighthearted moments but it was mostly a serious drama that I admit had me crying a few times.

Just got back from an early dinner with friends. Seafood, whoot! Golden haddock with French fries and coleslaw, yum! I've been craving seafood ever since I've been working on my Avengers beach vacation story. :)

So, maybe do a little writing of fanfic for a few days and just relax. The heat wave is back so I don't know how much I'll get done, but I'm just drifting along and seeing how it goes. :)

Happy Day!

Ever enjoy that rare day when everything seems to go right? A day that has no huge happening but is just a heckuva good day? That's me, today! :)

Hope everyone had a Merry Lammas and is looking forward to the weekend! I'm pretty hungry right now (I haven't eaten since breakfast), so I might stop at the deli on the way home and try one of their fresh salads with chunks of chicken. I'm in a salad mood! :)

Hi, luvs! A Happy Fourth of July for my fellow Americans and a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to [livejournal.com profile] digitalwave and [livejournal.com profile] selinamoonfire! Have a great day, ladies! :)

I ran to the grocery store this morning and picked up hamburgers, corn-on-the-cob, and a bunch of fresh fruit. I've been craving fresh, juicy, cold fruit like crazy. It must be this heat! I also bought some ice cream sandwiches. The fruit consists of strawberries, grape tomatoes, blueberries and plums. *mouth waters*

I'll be going over to the neighbors later for a cook-out and there will be fireworks. Hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill are super-tasty! :) I did some pro writing this morning and am typing up some fanfic while listening to the Red Sox game. Nothing better than the Fourth of July at Fenway Park! :)

Hope you're all enjoying your day! :)

Jim coughed violently, his chest already sore. He collapsed back against the pillows, glad for the double set. One pillow was just too thin. He pulled the quilt closer. )

[livejournal.com profile] rijsg has written a lovely romantic femslash tale (Kate/Maggie) for the 2013 DCU Fic/Art Chocolate Valentine’s Day Challenge. It was posted yesterday on Valentine's Day (My posting issues here at LJ continue! Now I can post from my IE browser but whenever I edit, it deletes the entry. *sighs*).
